I want to bind the hold crouch to LCtrl (as that's what I'm used to from playing a number of modern FPS). How do I remap the hotkey to activate the item description window? (Ya know, ctrl+LClick = an item description.)
Also is it all possible to natively bind weapon cycling to the mouse wheel?
I just got onto the fifth floor of the ship (the bridge I think) and no it's longer realistically possible to stash my accumulated gear in that elevator. Is there another convenient and highly accessible place to stash my gear?
I'm also concerned that the very soon the game may permanently cut off access to the Von Braun once I get onto the Richenbacher and I'll be stuck with whatever gear I've got in my inventory.
Up until very recently the default pistol has been my primary gun of choice. It was good for taking out monkeys, annelid larve, cameras, the exploding C3POs. Now I've find that the plasma pistol and crystal shard are good for fulfilling those tasks.
Should I replace the pistol with the assault rifle? Is the recoil (kick back) the only disadvantage to the rifle?
Many thanks in advance.

Change the following entries in either:
a) user.bnd (make it write safe after you're done)
b) your 2 bnd files that make up a saved keyset (cfgaxxx.bnd & cfgbxxx.bnd in the Binds folder)
Code:
bind keypad_center +crouchhold
bind ctrl +query
The mousewheel is not supported (it's an old game).
You can stash your stuff anywhere you like, reaching the Rickenbacker won't cut you off from it, although later you will be, when you are told to launch an escape-pod you are in.
The assault rifle (AR) is pretty much the kill all uber gun in an unmodded game.

"Mouse Wheel Control" and "XMouse Button" programs (google it) will provide you with all the functionality you'll ever need for switching weapons with the wheel and using up to 5 mouse buttons if you have them. I can shoot/use/crouch/run/inventory and switch weapons with just my mouse when i have these programs running in the background.

I'd recommend (
http://www.autohotkey.com/) AutoHotkey for that. Well, I haven't tried many alternatives, but this works very nicely.
Also, I've heard that things can randomly dissappear from the elevator, so I never keep anything in it.

I've seen it. And then the missing things might come back out of the ether next time you use the elevator.
I always stash just outside the elevators on Deck 1 & 2. I don't stash anything on deck 3 (I've had things disappear even outside the elevator there - though the nearby room with the recharger seems okay) or deck 4 (too inconvenient with the denizens of the deck hanging around).
On deck 5 I use the midway tram stop as my stash (after hacking the two turrets of course :) ). Very convenient to both sides of the tram and a ready place for when you ascend the turbolift. However, I'll use the room right outside the elevator if I need to stash things but haven't yet hacked the two turrets. You may occasionally have visitors there; but never at the midway stop (once you have performed your initial clearing of that area).
