SS2 - in search of secrets, and the Data Library.

Hi folks,

I'm new to the forum but not to SS2, have beat it several times so don't worry about plot spoilers with me.

I'm very puzzled about the Siddons log found on deck 4, the one where she repeatedly promises Tommy she won't die. (By the way - wow, how romantic can you get? :) It also contains mention of some "goodies" she has hidden in the "data library". I can't find any such room on Deck 4.

There is "Data Storage", which is the snow-filled room you fight a Red Assassin in. Is this what she meant? And furthermore, is there any way at all to reach the upper level(s) of Data Storage? There are some nanites I was able to yank with psi pull. Is there any way to climb up there?

By far my favorite secret place is the one in Hydroponics where the EMP and Power Armor are found, through the window, up the ladder, and across the pipes.

So I'm wondering: where is this data library, and are there any more neat secret areas? I'm also wondering: on Deck 2, in the entryway for the maintenance shaft to engineering (where there's a corpse with a couple bottles of booze), there are some gratings and what looks like a crawlspace behind. Is there any way to get in there?

Yes, the data storage is the room Rebecca is talking about. Didn't you find the things she was talking about when you searched it?
I also tried hard to get up that elevator shaft to reach the upper level, but recognized that it's useless ..

I know the room on Hydroponics and I've been through the windows, but never saw a ladder! Wow .. maybe that unsettling sound made me wanna go out of the room as soon as possible ..
And I thought I discovered everything - foolish me.

EDIT: I just wanna add, that I never liked the term "data storage" for that room, since there was nothing that looked like a data storage. It was more like a cargo bay for dangerous material .. storage 4 (?) on Engineering by far looked more like a data library.
Also, there is no way to get those giant exploding containers through the door and that cornered, tight hallway and the other way around ..

Yes, there is a ladder there. That was one fo the first 'secrets' I've discovered in the game.

Another 'secret' place is the one in the BOTM, on your way to the brain room. And of course, there's also the top of the 'tower' in the 'Where Am I?' level.

Here's how. As you face the windows from the room with the power armor, shoot out the middle and right windows. Jump up into the right window ledge. Turn right to look at the window frame, lean out left, and look up. You should see an alcove - that's your goal. Now look straight out the window and jump to the ledge. Follow it around to the left, and you should find a ladder. Climb it to reach the pipes, and follow them to the right to find some engineer's hidden stash (booze and magazines), as well as ammo and a few Cyber Modules. Now jump from the pipes through the middle window to return.

I'd like to know about those too, I think I've found the BotM one but not the Where am I? one.

On the tunnel leading to the brain room (with reavers in it) there's a spot where you can use a vent to blow you up to a high ledge.

At the spot in Where Am I? where you descend down the boxes to the drop shaft, you can instead leap/mantle the boxes to climb up instead. There's goodies up there when the level begins but they disappear over time so you have to be quick and mantling the boxes is quite tricky.

And the items in the Data Library are located near the place where the red assassin originally is, next to the wall on your right.

A new discovery! In the Brig on Deck 4 (Ops), if you get caught in the open cell with the corpse sitting Indian-style, you can escape by shooting out the junction box above you.

Those aren't exactly 'novelties', you know? ;)

Remember that this is a 7 year old game, and most people here have been playing it for that long. I doubt that there are any secrets left to discover :)

Well, new to me, at any rate. :)

If anyone knows of more secret areas, by all means, let me know. Gamefaqs has a surprisingly poor selection of SS2 material, considering the game is such a classic. I'm strongly considering writing a guide myself.
