There is optional techno music, but it's much better to play without it
Wha??
He failed to mention some things about the enviornment that I think are important. Like that even when the story is linear, you stop and go back to places youve been(all the way to the beginning!) and do things, and then run explore new areas, somthing very few games do.

The article means the music you can disable in the options menu, I think. :)
As for being able to go back, there is hardly any particular reason to do that other than enjoying the hunt or gathering chemicals I figure... I never felt a great urge to kill rumblers/midwives/cyborgs in engineering.

Of course, PSI teleportation would be okay, being seperately developed, and of course performed in a fundamentally different way.
Very true. Plus, the power doesn't come cheap. You have to be an alcohol free OSA spook with an armful of cyber modules before you can even think of getting it. The mechanic version that Shodan's mini-me had could be slapped on anyone.

Yes, but you start to get into the problem of mindless repetition. Who would want to search 50+ sleeping quarters on the same deck? Just look at SS1. The first Station Status Vidmail says that 98% of the escape pods had been jettisoned. You later find two. That implies 100 escape pods originally. Wouldn't that be fun to search (even if it was just the corridors leading to them all)?

Oh boy! Imagine the fun of sifting through 59 desks, then finding the card you need in #60! I can't wait!
But does anyone really need levels that big? I enjoy realism, but theres a point where real dosen't mean fun. A realistically scaled VB would be fun, until you needed to find a card key or specific log to get somewhere. That and how long it would probably take to actaully get from point B to E without trams or anything.

spix's circlet has a point here. Even if there was only one blue card you could get good hints on where to find it exacly. Other parts of the ship would be optional sidequests.
So you wouldn't have to search 50+ sleeping quarters - but you could! And that's the point where realism adds to the game and fun of playing it.
I think the main reason why games/SS aren't done like that is not because it would be no fun but because it would be a hell of a lot of work for developers.
EDIT: Which brings me to the question why nobody has made a sidequest for the existing levels yet. Adding a bulkhead in a level shouldn't be too hard - then starts the FM-part. That way a lot of the things that make FM authoring such a pain in the ass could be circumvented (eg necessary skill development, story background, etc.).
I proposed some time ago to make the Many's lair that you see in the camvator cutscene accessible and playable. You could remove the Many's brain there and make it a hideously infected part of the ship in no time.
All you would need would be a single log in the level with the new bulkhead (Eng?) saying how the crew sealed of this part of the ship because of the infestation. There.

ohferfucksake...
There's a list of stickies at the top of the damn topic list. Read them.
Or we'll set ZylonBane on you.
Is my sarc-o-meter broken? Or has someone other than a 'New Member' asked a really stupid question in total honesty?

There. I provided a link. Aren't I nice? :p
