I don't see whats wrong with a tram on a huge spacecraft. It did only have threes stops though.
Assidragon on 6/9/2005 at 17:16
Well, I found weird that the only way to access command from Von Braun is via the tram. What if there is a malfunction or power outage?
Kolya on 6/9/2005 at 17:24
Ask yourself: Would you build a 3-stop tram with no door but a roof into a spaceship? Also what Assidragon said.
They could have used a vertical gravshaft instead. Or a simple conveyer belt. That's something I miss in SS2 anyway: CONVEYER BELTS! YA! :D

Y'know, I've occasionally wondered what happened to the teleporters from SS1. The technology seemed pretty established back then. Weird that it vanished by the time of SS2. And it's certainly not an engine limitation.

Well, they
were experimental. Maybe later experiments showed them to be too dangerous and Tri-Optimum scrapped the project.

Dunno, maybe there was a side effect of the teleport pads that were too long term for you to notice in SS1? Or maybe they required too much power to be effective? Because the reactor in SS1 seemed to be on the verge of meltdown. But I always thought that the tram was there for security purposes, like the sole elevator.
I wonder if it would be possible to create a mod that let you interact without other survivors? Or would this be more trouble then its worth?

It seemed to me that the technology was perhaps developed on Citadel. It was a research station after all. When all hell broke loose, those behind the development were killed, if they were not assimilated. When the station went, the research and the only prototypes were lost. As for why the research hadn't been shared with the Triop R&D guys on earth, well, perhaps they didn't want to risk the leak of a corporate secret, or maybe they didn't want to test it in a heavily populated area, due to its experimental nature.

I might as well just throw out a few wild guesses. The teleporters were only experimental on Citadel station, so maybe the information on how to actually produce them was only available there? Diego was teleporting around whenever you encountered him, except for the final time you kill him, so maybe it was considered too dangerous of a technology to be mass produced? Or, TriOptimum
wanted to reproduce the teleporters, but people weren't about to allow that because after the Citadel disaster?

Probably more trouble than it's worth. How would you interact with them? If you wanted to talk with them, you'd need voice actors, and probably quite a few of them. If you wanted to chat with major characters, you'd be needing voice actors who can do a decent impersonation of them. It would be a pain to find them. :erm:

That's a good thought. SHODAN did essentially become the next Hitler in people's views. People wouldn't want to have much to do with anything developed on Citadel. Of course, PSI teleportation would be okay, being seperately developed, and of course performed in a fundamentally different way.

Interaction could be written. Either in the traditional Pick-a-sentence way, or in a little chat. We could write up a SHODAN-AI based on ALICE and feed it everything we know about her. Providing an interface within the game would be the biggest problem. Maybe the MP-chat could be modified.
