So here's the deal. I downloaded SS2 demo and first I could'nt even Install it. Then i changed the compatibility to Windows 2000. Then I was able to start the game! Wohoo everything is fine so far! No...
When the games loads the map, error displays and it says:
ERROR: Direct3d device driver does not accurately report texture memory usage. Contact your 3d accelerator vendor for updated drivers.
I have tried:
- Start the game with parameter -lgntforce. Pretty much failed, because it doesn't even let me to do it. "...-lgntofrce isn't suitable. Make sure, that path and filename have been written right"
- Add LGVID.AX Actually worked, but don't know how to continue? After added the lgvid.ax it just says: "DllRegisterServer in module c:\your\path\to\SS2\LGVID.AX suceeded." Every single time when trying to launch game it just congraz me about succes but doesn't let me continue to the game!
- Adding user.cfg file with safe_texture_manager. Didn't work
E: Sorry i forget. My system:
- Windows XP
- Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS
- 512mb RAM
- Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80Ghz
- DirectX 9.0c

You are supposed to add safe_texture_manager to cam.cfg, not user.cfg. If that doesn't work, give us a little more system info (OS, graphics card, that sort of thing).

user.cfg or cam.cfg, doesn't matter.
But then "KindOf" seems a have a few things wrong: The -lgntforce switch is to be used on installation (of a full game), not when starting the game.
And by "adding lgvid.ax" I assume you mean, you registered the module, from the message you got. Well that doesn't start the game either.
Try doubleclicking shock2.exe after you registered the module.

Oops, really?
Well, didn't work anyways. I think i'll give up. At least i tried. I just love Deus Ex and ss2 is one of those rare games wich are pretty close to it. I played ss2 first time when i was like 6 years old :D Great memories...

Really? Didn't know that.

Well everyone used to suggest user.cfg which is what IrrationalGames said in the patch readme, but it got the newbies confused since from the start there is no user.cfg and you have to create it yourself.
Since using the existing cam.cfg works just as well I went to suggesting this one for changes instead.

Guess i'm gonna download the full version from somewhere then. I suppose they don't sell this game anymore.
Kolya on 19/2/2009 at 16:27
They do, on ebay.

That's not 'them' selling the game anymore, that's some private person trying to make a little money on second-hand goods. No money goes to anyone originally involved in making or publishing the game.
