horse shit! i so could have used SOME form of light amplification.
Off-topic; out of curiosity, have you tried the (
http://www.geocities.com/nameless_voicetex/ccp/CitadelDemo01.zip) Citadel Demo? If so, what'd you think of the experimental night vision system in it?
If you're going to modify the Rebirth hybrid model for the cutscenes, then can you please make the calves and the thigh pockets smaller? They look quite out of proportion.

Great work on VB, the Shuttle and Earth, Muzman. Really great!

Cheers. with any luck the rest will go even better.
Now, my dreamed-of army of helpers isn't exactly forthcoming so far. So maybe if I break things up a bit more clearly (and hopefully the image spam isn't too offensive);
I need some folks to help me find and/or rebuild these scenes
Inline Image:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~ragtag/cs2-1.jpgThis one's just a little room somewhere with some junk in it. I don't think it really exists in the game, myself (I couldn't find anywhere with that wall texture)
Inline Image:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~ragtag/cs2-2.jpgThis one's another fairly ordinary room; desk, window, what looks like a fume cupboard in the corner and some worms on the floor. (couldn't find anything quite like this either)
Inline Image:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~ragtag/cs2-3.jpgAn environmental regulator scene. This doesn't seem to correspond exactly to any of the ones in the game. One of the existing ones could probably be substituted if folks generally agreed on which one to use.

http://members.iinet.net.au/~ragtag/cs2-5.jpgA fairly simple corner with a what would have to be a precisely timed bit of scripting (something I certainly can't do)
Comments, criticism, offers of assistance; all most welcome.

Frankly I wouldn't worry too much about the settings. They're all fairly generic as you noted yourself and therefor you could just use similar places in the game. It might even be cooler when people can recognize these places while playing.
So the biggest hurdle here is the character animations.

Too bad there isn't a camera there.

It seems to me that doing it as an avi recording of in-engine machinima is the wrong way to go about this. Couldn't you just export the rebirth models and textures into the 3D animation package of choice and render the cutscenes that way? Or is this what you're already doing?
This means potentially more work as far as arranging lighting to match the Shock engine, but you don't have to worry about timing scripting and whatnot to get the desired animations.

Yeah, the thought had occured to me. I am kinda fond of that second room though. Looks good in that shot. Well if people would like to suggest some places in the game, I'll try them out. Their lighting might have to be adjusted along the way.
And, as you mention later, is the lack of a security camera in a given spot a problem? I think where possible it'd be great to have them match up, but given the original spaces don't seem to exist we can flex a bit on that.

Sector C - Maintenance on Deck 3!
Good pull! that one will do nicely (hopefully not too dark the way it is)

No that's not what I'm doing, sorry to say. I suspect if someone was capable of that they might have done it a long time ago, but given the attention anyone with some 3d skill gets around here as soon as they appear, such skill is pretty thin on the ground. Dromed skill is much easier to find, and I even have a tiny bit myself. Doing the change over for that sounds very labour intensive, particularly given we have honest and accurate source material ready made for us. Timing a little bit of animation won't be so bad, although I could see how it would frustrate the hell out of people not used to that sort of thing. I'm used to doing take after take of some movement, or sifting through piles of footage for the right moment. A heck of a lot easier than completely rebuilding the scenes in an entirely different render, physics and animation system, it seems to me.
Well anyway, if folks have any other candidates for good video monitor scenes don't hesitate to suggest them.

Okie dokie. I did a little test render and thought eh might as well throw the sound on and upload it and see what happens. Tis the season and all that. So here it is
(
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CY4DSLHX)
hopefully the file is ok and such. And feel free to tell me megaupload is a pile of crap I should avoid at all costs (I just couldn't think of anywhere else to put it, the file is slightly too big for my webspace).
It's a little large at 32megs but most can handle that these days I hope (I just didn't compress the audio very much). The file is an xvid AVI about a minute and 18 seconds long of 640x480 footage.
There's a few rough bits, but hopfully its enough to give people an idea of where its going.
