SS2 crahes while loading deck 3 on the rickenbakker.. - by Ranx

Hey Ranx, what exactly did you do to get this working? I'm having the EXACT same problem, everything is fine until I try taking the elevator to Deck 3 (Hydro), then it goes to the loading screen which doesn't load, and a couple of seconds later gives me the "we are sorry for the inconvenience" Microsoft error message.
I've got the official patched SS2, tried with and without the "WinXP patch", tried copying everything over from the CD "Shock" folder, tried Straylight's mod, re-copied the mission files from SS2 Cd, etc, and it still crashes :(

mlc82, are you seriously so naive that you think that someone who hasn't posted here in over TWO YEARS is going to see and answer your question?

No I just didn't bother noticing the date on the post after searching for this last night. Might as well bump it in case someone does know how to fix this instead of getting flamed for creating yet another "help me with winxp!" topic.

But Ranx does say what he did to get things working:

I replaced both rick2 and 3 mis files from straylight's mod, I dont know which one was causing the problem but it's working now and that's all that matters.
Typically, your problem is caused by a corrupt .mis file.

I wasn't sure if he meant he replaced Straylight's file with the original on the cd, or vice versa, or if there were any other seemingly insignificant steps he took that might have helped... I've tried both sets of .mis files and neither has worked. I may just be screwed :(

Try replacing the file hydro2.mis with either the version from ADaOB or from the original CD.
If the version from Straylight's mod, try hiding away the file "Hydro2.dif" in your SS2 folder, e.g. rename it to xHydro2.dif.
