This is a new one for me.
Playing System Shock 2 on Win 7 (64), everything used to work as long as I Set Affinity to one processor. At one point I went to load a game and got a consistent crash from them on--if I tried to load that file, the game died, period.
I started a new game and tried to save it in a new save slot, but suddenly the game stopped filling in details of saves on the Save and Load screens. All slots read "Empty" in both screens, no matter what. They also act empty on the load screen--I can't load saves or autosaves. :(
Since the game used to work, I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I manually deleted the sshock2 folder in D/games after the uninstall. I wasn't using any mods.
But after reinstall, I still can't load savegames!
I think it is making save files when I tell it to save (they appear in D/games/sschock2 as normal), but I can't load them since all slots are "Empty."
Edit: Quickload made the file names reappear in the Load list, but crashing is still guaranteed if I try to use one. (Quickload also crashes.)
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this, or why the reinstall didn't help?

Game was supposed to run on Windows 98. Your Win 7 system is too advanced, so it's no shock that you'll encounter problems.

Sounds a bit like a R/W rights issue. Before trying to install SS2Tool, you can try to run the game as Administrator first and see if it helps.
SS2 runs perfectly on my w7 x64 computer.
