GLaDOS comments that
the first part of her you destroy is an ethical control unit to stop her from murdering everyone.
Sounds familiar, no?

Holy hell, it is. Especially when you realize that
you're the only person left, and that all the researchers are gone- just you and the crazy bitch-machine.
GLaDOS may very well have supplanted SHODAN as my favorite murderous insane AI. Oh sure, SHODAN called me an insect, but did she tell me I'm adopted, have no friends, and won't be getting any cake? No, she did not. For that you need real evil.

"If you love that thing so much, why don't you marry it?"
Made me ROFL.

Don't forget adding in the fact that she reminds you that you killed your only friend, an inanimate wieghted cube.
Best...ending....EVER.

I was so sorry for my companion-cube :(
The game is really kinda nice but not exactly the same as system shock i think. For that it's a bit too simple after all. More like a puzzle game with a neat little story and cool "characters". But i have to admit, the story really surprised me.

Sounds like you're not entirely sure. Like maybe a small part of you thinks Portal *is* exactly the same as System Shock.

GLaDOS got as much of a reaction out of me as SHODAN did - maybe even more so. The moment of realization that hey, everyone in the entire goddamned place is gone, it's just me and this sardonic computer... was something that Shock never even attempted. GLaDOS's constant encouragement and adoration of you as an excellent test subject in contrast with later events created a very striking characterization.
