SS2 and Deus Ex.. Which is better? - by michaelg

The DX system is certainly a step up from the SS2 method of dealing with things, but DX didnt have the earth shattering powers of the assault rifle either.
By the way, is there any way to make the SS2 weapons system like the DX version? Or is it more trouble then its worth?

In DX, with no training you can operate ANY weapon, albeit poorly.
In SS2, with no training you can't operate weapons at all.
Give me the DX approach any day.
The DX method sounds
a lot more realistic, but I can't imagine it being better than SS2's method gameplay-wise, but that's just because I haven't played DX.

it didn't need it. level 6 rifle + silenced sniper + riotgun + assault rifle = everybody dies.

Yeah, towards the end DX's arsenal puts even the SS2 assault rifle to shame. Sniper Rifle + max skill in rifles means you can take out almost any medium-sized target in a single shot. It even lets you destroy objects that normally require explosives to destroy. Now that's overpowered.

Never spent much time on the sniper rifle, actually. Of course, this was the PS2 version with shortened areas between load times, so it never struck me as very practical. (Why get a new weapon when I can do the same thing with my dinky little stealth pistol or crossbow?)

You've ONLY played the PS2 version of DX?
Yikes.

The PC version ran at aim jerking speeds when I tried to use it, regardless of how I fiddled with the textures. Besides, the PS2 version is a damn fine port, cramped loading areas aside.

I had no idea the sniper rifle could become so powerful. I always seem to put points in the stealth pistol, which is a pretty powerful weapon in itself when maxed out with upgrades.
Of course later in the game I usually pick up a GEP gun so I don't have to waste lockpicks. I also find it very satisfying wasting people and bots with it too.

Deus Ex is longer, deeper, better looking, more interesting, has more replay value, more mods, more fun multiplayer, better music and sound, better in just about every single thing you can possibly think of.
That said, SS2 is still one of my favorite games of all time.

Deus Ex ... has ... better ... sound
Oh, so very wrong.
Deus Ex's sound is adequate at best, dreadful at worst. SS2 had sound god Eric Brosius at the helm.
