SS2 and Deus Ex.. Which is better? - by michaelg

Title pretty much says it all.
I have been playing SS2 for the last week or so, and had forgotten just how damn good the game was. As I mentioned in another post on these forums I hadn’t been able to complete SS2 for over 5 years because I could never get it to run right until now. One time I got about half way through, and many times I could get it going for a few levels but it would always start acting up on me forcing me, to stop playing for one reason or another.
Also the first time I played it I was drinking heavily and doing other stuff as well, so I never really comprehended or understood the story or a lot of the mechanics of the game because I was always so inebriated and generally just screwed up. Those were hazy times for me, but I DO remember that I loved the game and always put it as one of the best games ever.
Now however I’m in a different frame of mind and I’m starting to wonder if SS2 could possibly topple the great Deus Ex as my personal favorite game of all time. I had forgotten how long the game is as well. I’ve just started Command, and have no idea how much more there is to the game, but I am amazed at the depth and scope of this game to this point.
So I would love to hear what you guys think, seeing as most of the people that visit this forum obviously love both of these games.

They're different games, and I enjoy them for different reasons.
My favorites go like this:
SS1
SS2 / Half-Life 2 / Deus Ex
It's all very close.

SS2 is better.

What JK said. You shouldn't really compare them, since they were meant to be played (and enjoyed) differently. SS2 is more immersive and captivating, DX gives you a bigger degree of freedom over your choices and actions.
That being said, I enjoyed SS2 a bit more due to the thrilling feeling of autophobia and the fact that you might get attacked at any time, even if you think you've cleared a place, a tension that wasn't there in DX. But the difference is so small that it would be a sin to play one and not the other. ;)

I find it difficult to say which is better, but I like Deus Ex more by a small margin. The latter had a more cinematic story and you were never alone, so it gets the crucial leading points. They are my two favourite games, so I don't care which is "better" :)

I pity the tiny minds which must sort their favorite games into a one-dimensional continuum with only one "best".

Utah is much better, hands down!

Well, I'm personally glad both of these games were made, along with the Thief series, as these are the only games I continue to replay over and over. Perhaps I worded the title in an innappropriate maner.
Seeing as both are FPS/RPG hybrids (of which we as gamers don't get NEARLY enough of IMO), I was just curious as to which game people thought might be the better gameplay experience.
Of course, what was I thinking? How could I, (with my "tiny" "miniscule" "pea" brain), even ask such a thing? Why, it's blasphemy and I should beaten about the head with a blunt object for having the audacity to even post this!!!
And to Mr Bane, my most sincere humble apologies.

Don't worry, that's just his way of saying "I'm different." ;)
Anyway, I liked SS2 better. For the record, not that it means much. I haven't played Deus Ex past the first mission. Maybe I'll change my mind someday.
