I just recently viewed (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/member.php?u=11329) D'Arcy's profile, which contained a screenshot from a cutscene from SS1, where the hacker is slumped over a laptop and wearing a t-shirt with a smiley-face with a running bloodstain.
Now, I've seen this cutscene a thousand times, but it just struck me about the smiley-face-blood-stain-thingy.
It's taken from Bomb The Bass, a British late 1980s hiphop/electronic act, which became a figurehead for the acid movement, OR, from the source Bomb The Bass stole it from, the graphic novel 'The Watchmen'.
Which brings me to my question:
Does anybody really know why the hacker is wearing that particular logo?

I sold it to him when I ran a shop in China-town. I said
Quote:
Hey! Be a man. Dooo da right fing.
I got 25 credits for it. What a sucker.

Given that we know there were fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac among the devs it might be a Watchmen reference.
Good men. :D
EDIT: Dave Gibbons of Watchmen ilustrated Beneath A Steal Sky and Bomb the Bass made the music for Xenon2. Two great games.

We know that? Alrighty then!
[Edit]
Now that I think about it, the main theme of Watchmen is "who watches the watchmen", and in SS1, it is the hacker who watches the watcher, Shodan. There's probably a clever point hidden somewhere there.
[Edit]
Xenon II: Megablast. Bomb The Bass indeed.

Ah, I remember Happy Noodle from the Earth segment of SS2. Should have thought of it sooner. But I didn't.
