Sounds kind of dumb.
Not as dumb as DX3 being
yet another prequel, however.
DX3 is the
only prequel in the Deus Ex universe.

I honestly don't know if you're being
wilfully dense, here, so I'm going to assume that was on the level.
I think the idea behind the title is that humans themselves are being revolution
ized, rather than merely being the ones revolutioniz
ing, which is the typical case. Revolution in government; revolution in technology; revolution in humanity. The fact that all of those revolutions are done
by humans does not erase the distinction that one of them is being done
to humans.
I understand perfectly what the idea behind the title is as I am familiar with the subject matter in this game.
However, one of the main purposes of a title and especially a subtitle is to explain in a clear and pithy manner what the book, film, game is about to someone who
doesn't know what it's about. Or, if it doesn't, it should at least raise interest in the consumer to find out.
There is nothing in the title which clearly states that it is referring to revolutionizing the human organism itself. Believe me, most people would not make that leap.

Normal people (i.e. non-pedants) don't intentionally look for things to be "stupidly redundant", they automatically (and usually unconsciously) assume that a level of specificity used was a level of specificity called for. Now, a person knowing nothing of the subject matter would likely jump to a different conclusion than the one I did, but that jump would probably involve a revolution against the non-human - a conclusion which may not be inappropriate, either, given Deus Ex's backstory of prejudice against the augmented.

Wow, you really are a moron, aren't you?
It's not a matter of "intentionally looking" for something to be redundant, it's a matter of those two words, when placed together, appear inherently redundant unless one knows the exact, narrow context in which they are being used.
And as you yourself point out, even if one was to make a guess about about what such a title might mean in a science fiction rather than a real-world context, their guess would still be wrong, and yes, inappropriate to the setting (if anything, the plot sets the
non-humans up as victims who must rebel, not the other way around).
Just admit it: it's a stupid, vague title which unless one knows the
exact context it is used seems redundant, or at best implies a completely different plot.

Jesus Herbert Christ you guys, it's just a fucking title! Who gives a shit, it has some meaning, maybe it's meaning we don't get at the time, but hey, probably half the books/movies/songs have names you dont understand until you actually read/watch/play them. And shit, even if it is redundant (hint: it's not unless your vocabulary is at the level of a 16 year old), perhaps the redundancy is intentional, and turns out to be a major theme in the game?
ITT, TTLG goes batshit insane over the least important aspect of a video game ever. Can we please go back to how the 3rd person view rapes the franchise sideways please?
ZymeAddict on 13/3/2010 at 07:19
In case you didn't notice, the topic of this thread is the title of the game. If you want to talk about gameplay issues, make a thread for it.
And the title of the game is important. It's one of the main ways the game is advertised and how it's defined in the popular imagination.

Good point! In that spirit, I propose we rename it to "Deus Ex: Yakoob Fellates Goats".
It's just a title, right?

Way to spectacularly miss the point

ZymeAddict, you didn't add anything new to your argument and in no way countered my previous take-down of it. So, enjoy a quote of Yakoob's rather concise description of the problem with your position.

That's because I didn't have to add anything. I was merely attempting to restate it in a way that perhaps might be easier for someone of your obviously staggering intellect to comprehend, but it's becoming increasingly apparent that that's an impossibility.
All you managed to do in your epic "take down" was A, put forward the moronic argument that the average person would automatically assume that the developers meant something profound by a title no matter how idiotic it sounded at face value and just role with it, and B, undermine your own argument further by pointing out how even if the customer made a relatively educated guess, they would still in all likelihood come to the wrong conclusion about the premise for the game.
Wow, you sure showed me.
As for Yakoob's statement, whether the apparent redundancy is "16 year old vocabulary" or not is irrelevant. While in another context you might be able to get away with that usage, in that of a pithy subtitle it still comes across as redundant and silly without further explanation.
Besides, like it or not, 16-year-olds are likely going to be one of the primary customers for the game. ;)
