(

Square-Enix is reporting a loss of 13 billion yen (~$138 million USD) and president Yoichi Wada has been given the boot.
No word yet on whether or not this affects Thief. Even if it doesn't it's a shame since S-E's output lately has been pretty good. DXHR and Sleeping Dogs were both great games, and Tomb Raider is supposed to be good as well. :erg:

A surprised jay scrabbles for currency converter - err $138 million USD, not $138 USD.

Perhaps if they spent less money hiring top fashion designers to create real world replicas of their in game costumes, and focused on making good games, they wouldn't be losing so much.

You know, if I sold 3.4 million somethings in 4 weeks I'd probably be quite chuffed.

What is this even a reference to? What are you even talking about?

... That they hired a famous fashion designer to design Garrett's outfit for T4 and made a real world replica of it maybe. And then that's a reference to the fact that SE has a reputation for style & aesthetics over substance & gameplay in games, cf. the trend in Japanese gaming generally.
It's a bit hyperbole & generalization, sure (it's not like the outfit itself bankrupted them), but it's a respectable point. Style-heavy games are losing their luster, and ostensibly that's exactly why SE may be doing poorly.
