Doom 2, Quake 1, Command and Conquer / Red Alert, Counter Strike 1.6, Starcraft and Unreal tournament, were my favs for LANs. As you say, Online multiplayer just isn't the same.

Excluding driving sims (which I don't categorise under Sports), only a few spring to mind. There's British Open Championship Golf (which I originally only picked up on account of its developer, but genuinely enjoyed playing). (

awful at). Jimmy White's 2: Cueball. And somewhere I have a skiing game, too.

Speaking of sports games, the current weekly Humble Bundle is all about sports!

I bought it just for Qvadriga, but OlliOlli and Vertiginous Golf are pretty good as well!
Anyone want a free Steam key for any of the games in it that aren't Qvadriga can pester me for it and SEE WHAT HAPPENS! :grr: (hint: you may GET IT! :grr: (the key, that is.))

I love "Near future" stuff like Speedball 1&2, Wipeout, F-Zero X and the like, but I can understand why people wouldn't classify them as sports games (although Speedball 2 had a pretty good management game included).
I played a bit of Sensi and Kick Off when I were a sprog too, but football never really enthralled me.
However, I absolutely adored Wave Race and 1080 on the N64. Just a shame the Gamecube sequels weren't as good.

In the case of Speedball, be sure to watch the movie "Rollerball" which it is HEAVILY influenced by.

I'm 42. I've seen Rollerball ;)
Not in a while mind you, so will have to dig it out again.

I only watched it for the first time a few months back. Pretty damn good overall.
