It took you until he tried to grab her?
I spent most of the fucking game going "plz don't be a fucking AI, plz don't be a fucking AI"...
Still, on the face of it (coz y'know, you are Koki), would you rather play a game trying to be more like DX and failing, or play yet another generic "shootfighter 4: the encovering" type game?
Also, I'm still loving how loads of people simultaneously slate it for 'forcing' you to hack locks (EXP OMG OMG) and do silent, non-lethal takedowns (EXP OMG OMG) and yet also slate it for giving you so much exp you upgraded all your augs by the end and had points left over. Ditto for cash.
"I did fucktons of tedious cash/exp-whoring the whole game and I ended up with loads of excess cash and exp!!!!111:mad:"
I mean, fuck: I did exactly the same thing, but I at least place the blame firmly at my own feet for being a cash&exp whore. Possibly they underestimated the extent to which their entire audience was composed of cash/exp whores?
It does make me wonder exactly HOW much extra exp you get for takedowns/hacking etc over the course of the whole game, though..since it's kinda doled out in piffling amounts (25 here, 50 there etc)..has anyone gone through non-lethally and then again lethally (or vice versa) and visibly noted any significant difference in exp?

I played a non-lethal game twice, and then went back in with seriously lethal intent. Though I didn't pay focused attention to the XP given for lethal and/or non-lethal takedowns, it did seem to me that you received XP more often for non-lethal td's. I thought the amount of the XP was about the same since I recall receiving 20XPs for the exact same takedown, once lethal & once non. I could be wrong since I played non-lethally more often than not, but that's just how it seemed to me.
Re: being forced to hack locks; iirc, there were only several security panels you were actually forced to hack; the rest were pretty much optional or the code was available if you found & read the right PDA, etc. (or if you cheated & looked up the codes available in the 'Cheat' sections of online HR walkthrus). My last time around I dl'd the Explosive Mission Pack (got a plain, ole retail copy, which didn't include some of the perks that came with the DL version of HR) and discovered the joy of the automatic hacking devices. I really loved those little thingies! Great weapons too, but unfortunately I was going for the 'Pacifist' achievement, so I didn't get a chance to use them.

Oh, sorry: I didn't make myself clear. It's unarguably more exp efficient to do non-lethal "takedown"-mediated takedowns than it is to..say, shoot someone in the face, but it's like 50 total exp for a nonlethal takedown vs 20 exp for a faceshot.
My question is whether this difference really amounts to anything over the course of the game: given progress awards and shit are of the order of thousands of exp, does getting an extra 30 exp per enemy really add up all that much, or is exp whoring really just "exp whoring entirely for the sake of exp whoring"?
Praxis points are like..5000 exp each, right? So you'd need to non-lethally takedown 166 dudes (when you could've simply shot them) to get a measurable benefit. I think there are probably more than that many dudes to take out over the course of the game..I'd say maybe twice as many (total guess), so that means possibly two extra praxis kits as a result.
The next question would then be "was there a point either midway through or near the end (where those exp bonuses would ding) when you felt you really needed another praxis point"?
Coz I'm really thinking that while having exp per kill is silly, and having different amounts of exp per kill is doubly so, the end result is so meaningless that it really isn't worth fastidiously whoring up like so many of us seem to have done. (though I mostly stuck with a non-lethal approach just because it seemed more challenging..honest! :P)

I thought getting extra XPs was important even up to the end of the game, but then again, I'm an exp whore. Couldn't help it. :( I really wanted those extra XPs, even up to the bitter end. Though I concentrated on the augs I thought I needed most for the first 3/4 of the game, there were augs I really wanted towards the end, but didn't have enough credits to buy or XP points to contribute towards obtaining.

Yeah, even up to just before the end I was envying the cloak aug but needed more XP to get it.

I preferred the non-lethal approach for the same reason.
Okay, well, and the extra XPs.
:o

Huh. Well, shows what I know. I had maybe 6 surplus praxis points at the end which I really should've just dumped into stupid things for lulz, but I had everything I needed and a lot of things I didn't by that point. Mind you,
I never really used cloak (though I had it -I think I used it twice to bypass lazorz before I figured out the guard-dragging trick),
I never used the typhoon (though I had it..I think I just hated that the game seemed to be all about OMG TEH PLNZ FOR TEH TYPHOONS ARE STOLED, when the typhoon itself was such a ridiculous concept. I fired it once, to try and kill Eliza's monitor-based pick-an-ending machine)
I never used the HUD upgrades (though I got some of them: the enhanced radar range is one thing koki hit square on: it really was a bad bad upgrade to take)
I never used the aim stabilisers, since I was mostly tazering people in the backside, though I may have bought them at the end just as "a thing to buy"
I considered buying the smash through walls aug for shiggles, but then discovered that 11 pistol shots did the same thing (though again I bought it at the end)
Oh, and I didn't get the dermal armouring until the end either (again just as a points dump)
Mostly I upgraded the shit out of hacking, see through walls (because fuckinnn: see through walls, man), and jumpy legs/ICARUS!!*. And double takedown because it was funny. Oh and all the energy slot upgrades, so I could chow down powerbars like a champ.
So possibly I was underexploiting the aug system anyway. If I were to play through again, I'd totally just faceshoot everyone with the revolver while dermal armour'd up.
Still, interesting that you visibly noticed a difference. Maybe my "based entirely on my own experiences" opinions aren't universally applicable.
*this was the dumbest aug idea, srsly.
"I have giant metal legs! Does that mean they cushion my fall?"
"No! It's a magic glowy featherfall mediated by induction fields using electromagnets and OMG LOOK OVER THERE!" *runs away*

In one of my earlier playthrus I used the cloak; thought it was waaayyy cool, but it ate up energy like crazy, so I decided to forego until my last playthru when I thought it really would've come in handy towards the end. However, stealth/P.E.P.s worked just as well, but like I said, I was an expwhore from the getgo.
I
loved the typhoon aug! Even if I was playing non-lethal, it came in handy taking out the bots after I'd run out of EMP 'nades. That was always one of the first augs I bought/chose in advance of the boss fights as well, since I really hate long, drawn out boss fights & would rather just blast thru those.
Never bothered with the HUD upgrades, so I don't even know how cool it might've been. Focused on hacking upgrades, loved the smash-thru-walls aug to death, but also invested in dermal armor reinforcement early on, since Jensen seemed to take far too much damage far too easily.
Also tried to get the Icarus landing system & the rebreather augs early on. Never regretted those choices for a moment, either. Last playthru the Icarus aug cut down on ladder-climbing-time considerably; liked the fact that just jumping off stuff to get down took half the time used to climb down (yeah, I'm a lazy bitch). And since the Icarus thingy didn't eat up any energy, I used the shit out of it. :p
Speaking of dumb augs, I am sooo curious about the pic below. What in hell is that between his legs, please? Super-augmented protection cup? And are those
buttons on the damned thing?

I'm tempted to think he augmented himself so much his dick just became a casualty of war, and now he has a socket for...attachments.
And then I'm tempted to reach for the brainbleach.
Dia on 17/10/2011 at 15:40
:laff: :laff:
OR ..... the panel covering those parts is like the covering panel on a car's airbag device. He could press a button if impact (& penetration) is imminent.
:weird:
Good idea on the brainbleach, though.

I've never understood why people are so eager to ruin their own experience. And so quick to blame that on others. A sufficiently complex game is almost guaranteed to have ways for people to ruin their own enjoyment thereof.
