You say that, but just like you keep saying you're leaving and then never do, I know you're going to read every word.
It's okay. You can't help yourself. I get it. I am accepting of your condition.
Where the fuck is the mod?
mgeorge on 12/10/2011 at 20:46
Good ol Dethy. :ebil: Always keeps things jumpin around here.
It's actually one of the main reasons I've been coming to this forum for years. There's nothing quite like the love and harmony spewed on these boards. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Agreed, mg; nothin' like the warm fuzzies. :cheeky:
And Llama, we've moved past the post you quoted, dear. That was so yesterday.

dethtoll I feel we got off on the wrong foot so ill talk about some of the things i liked about human revulotion. tho i already mentiond some of them in passing you probably missd them becoz my opinion was negativ overal so ill talk about them sum moar and then their will be no hard fellings
teh popamole shit was actualy fun. when i was in the fema place i was trying to cinematically taekdown two belltower specops but then i thought fuck it and i poppd one and left him in plain site so teh other guy would freek out and it would be leik in batman arkham asylum. anyway so i was still in hiding and saw teh other belltower guys cum up and instead of freaknig out they established a search patern or sumthing and i was all holy crap! this is the shit! but i dont leik to pop teh moles if i can avoid it and only used teh guns for farida and the bosses so i mostly used stelth, which was best suited for the cover system, but that was all rite coz you can make adam do teh safety dance while you wait for enemies to come close and you can dislocate their shoulder. also ghosting and cinematic taekdowns are teh best way to play becoz you get more xp:thumb:
another thing i liked is that its less railroded than other gaems like you can trank sanders but in most other games you wuld be forced to choos between him and teh hostage. then theres teh biochip recal, wich would hav been forced on you in other games but you can avoid it and then say some sexist shit to that chinese bitch.
i also thought the characters had moar depth than most games, but teh most interesting poeple were the ones you couldnt hav conversation combat with and so there personality wasnt reduced to three easily manipulable traits and so the ones i thoguth were most intresting were adam, farida, that ex belltoer guy and prichard. i didnt like prichard at first becoz he yelld at me for going in teh ladies restroom but then i read his rejection letter and i loled an realized why he hated jensen.
theres also a lot of subtext. all teh women are ennaboling bitches or need rescuing and teh only woman cop is dressed as a ho. jensen is teh virile augmented alpha male who can decide teh fat of humanity wheras darrow is the impotent old man who wants to hold it back. actually sorry i dont think i like that part. :nono:
i liked that everything is well reserched and theres lots of background info everywhere but on the other hand i think its mostly all plot relevant. for instance i was surprised when i was playing new vegas and ceasar teh leader of the slaver army mentioned hegelian dialectics wich i thought was pretty cool. i expected moar of that stuff in dxhr and also i wanted a thirdworld person to give me book recommndations cos im not big into books ;). also i wish they had gone moar into detail about why augmentation maeks you less human i mean this isnt a charles stross posthuman world were talking about. i hope they do that in the next dx game.
i also liked the aesthetic they chose. it didnt always work imo, like sometimes i would go what is that girl wearing!!! and also the piss filter did not apeal to me but the interior design was refreshingly different and i hope they do moar of that. it looked out of place in the dx universe, imo, but i dont hav a problem wit it, its nice.
so here are the things i liked about dxhr. maybe now we can make up and be friends dethtoll. see i even disabled my capslock so i wouldnt yell even by accident.

Since, as usual, people here at TTLG seem to be horribly confused about DX and HR, let's set the record straight.
Lockpick, Electronics and Computers from DX are now one skill only. Said skill is a minigame, a bad, slow minigame with a cursor that doesn't actually point at anything, rather the whole cursor is a pointer. It becomes more and more of a chore the longer the game goes. Especially since you're forced to hack everything you see(see: shitty XP system) which essentially punishes exploring and seeking alternate routes(i.e. if you get inside a locked room and open the door from inside, it will become unlocked and you just lost XP for hacking it otherwise). Hilarious.
The entire game in fact feels slow. Dialogues in modern games always seem to drag so fucking much because everything needs to be hammered down an ADD CoD player's skull from professional voice actors who read with the speed of an audiobook. Meaningless and pointless response choices don't help at all. There wasn't any of that shit in DX.
Combat is slow because you're forced to stealth melee takedown everyone(see: shitty XP system) and will watch the same four takedown animations about two hundred times in one playthrough.
The takedowns will get a separate entry because, to quote a certain Marine, "There's layers of retardation that most people don't even know about." Stealthy takedowns, jesus fuck. I'd think a spec op'd aug like Jensen would just hit them in the throat or shit, use some kind of electroshock or whatever that's actually a) quick and b) silent. Because the takedowns in the game are everything BUT a) quick and b) silent. In fact they're so fucking long that the devs decided the entire world will pause when Jensen is performing them. Because otherwise you could get stuck with a longer one and it would bullshit you when you're spotted. Furthermore, the positioning is completely out of the ass, the takedowns have range of like 2 meters and can be used to "teleport" enemies around. Especially the double ones, it's like an english night club. And let's not forget that, since they pause time, you can crouch-takedown people behind chest-high walls and remain undetected as long as the unconscious enemy remains invisible. No matter that you just fucking flipped a guy a meter in the air or someshit, because HEY, FUCKING TIME STANDS STILL WHEN YOU DO IT DID I MENTION HOW RETARDED THAT WAS YET
In HR, energy is infinite. One battery will always recharge, for free. A fucking joke. It's like playing DX with a mod that makes your bioelectric energy recharge whenever it drops below 20%. Yeah, you won't be able to become invisible and perform a takedown like that, but why would you. Christ, the game is so easy you could finish it without any augs at all no problem.
Except maybe boss fights. Boss fights. Are you fucking kidding me? Boss fights in enclosed arenas full of weapons, ammo and "medkits"? This is so idiotic I don't even know. Yeah there were bosses in DX, shut your STD hole, but these were just slightly stronger versions of regular enemies placed on the fucking level. All the normal game rules applied, besides you could use killswitches on Gunther and Anna, Maggie was a fucking joke, and next to Simons there was conveniently placed high voltage railway. Or you could just activate aggressive defense aug and he would kill himself with his own plasma rifle. See? This is the kind of difference idiots don't see. So you didn't have a killswitch for Gunther, great, you went in, saw him there, went back up and threw five LAMs into the room. NO PROBLEM. You could just RUN past fucking Anna. At no point you were put in a fucking ARENA shotting at a boss with five million hitpoints because apparently it's fucking 1995 again or someshit.
What else? Augs, fuck augs. The fact that DX had both augs, skills AND utility items was one of the things that made it so great(and that twerp Spector cut it from IW because he thought it was bad design or some nonsense, LOLZORZ). Now what do we have? Not only we have only augs, they're fucking weaksauce and there are only four active ones. I WONDER WHY, DOES IT HAVE ANY CONNECTION WITH SOMETHING CALLED A D-PAD WHICH HAS FOUR DIRECTIONAL BUTANS? I WOULDN'T KNOW I DO NOT OWN A CONSOLE VIDEO GAMING DEVICE. Like legs, or arms, you either have them or not have them, period. These things had FOUR LEVELS in fucking DX. And now CLICK and bam, you are the man? Fuck that noise. Hell, many upgrades are completely worthless. The map upgrade which increases range to 100m is actually bad because you can't say if an enemy is next to you or in the next room on that shitty tiny minimap.
WAIT, MINIMAP? WHICH HIGHLIGHTS ENEMY POSITIONS AND EVEN DIRECTIONS THEY'RE FACING? WHAT THE FUCK?
And Praxis Points are fucking everywhere. I maxed every passive aug I had because I didn't want the active one clogging up my screen, and I ended the game with 13 points unspent. That's a fucking lot of points. Looking at XP charts at DX wiki, it is very much possible to have EVERY aug in the game. Vanilla game, without the DLC. Hahaha oh wow.
What fuck else? Inventory is shit, ammo piles up like no tommorow, and why is there even trading system in the game? I mean seriously? They even went as far as making a crude supply-demand system where prices change as you buy/sell shit, WHAT THE FUCK FOR? A battle rifle is worth like, 800 bucks. Welp, let's pick two! OH WAIT YOU CAN'T IT TURNS INTO AMMO. What the fuck? And then after Hengsha you leave the shops for hours at a time and there's no way to pick and sell even half the shit you find. So again, why? Why? I think I had like 80k at the end of the game and I stopped caring halfway through, so it's not like money is a fucking problem.
Speaking of why, does the game really need to follow DX so fucking religiously? Why is UNATCO HQ theme playing in Sarif's office? Oh look, helicopter again(complete with pilot dying or not). Oh look, China again. Complete with going undercover in a medical facility. Oh look, infiltrating the ship again(now a DLC!). Seriously, there's only so much of this shit you can take before it starts becoming obnoxious.
Oh yeah. And it's a prequel to a game everyone's played. DON'T FORGET TO KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN PICKING THE ENDING, OOOPS IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER BECAUSE HEY, DEUS EX.
The story was ass. I knew Jensen was patient X and that he was adopted and he was experimented on before leaving the first room in the game. I knew Reed was alive. I figured out that Eliza was an AI the moment Jensen tried to grab her. I facepalmed when that chinese whore tricked him and hid in the safe room. I didn't have my chip replaced, because it was bloody obvious it's a trap. The only thing that really surprised me was Darryl. Or what was the cripple's name? That was really something I could call a PLOT TWIST. He made an interesting point and I thought about agreeing, but the game didn't let me. DUUURP.
The graphics were bad. I don't normally mention graphics, but seriously. I can live with people having octagonal ears but it genuinely hurt the game in locations like Upper China and Panchea which were supposed to be jaw-dropping. And in rest of the fucking levels which were made from same-looking corridors copied and pasted over and over and over. lolconsolememorylimitlol. Seriously, that just gets fucking boring. I'm supposed to be sneaking in a super secret hi-tech facility and I DON'T FEEL LIKE I'M DOING IT.
I liked the "talking battles". Though maybe not in a Deus Ex game, but the idea is okay.
And music was nice.
[Edit]Did I really write all that?
PS. Oh yeah. Health regen, generous even on Give Me Deus Ex.
PS2. And despite all the junk in the levels, you can't pick up 90% of it. Funny when you need to throw something to distract the guards.
PS3. The AI was impressive, especially if you alerted several of them.
