SPOILERS-Help neded in getting in crypt and..

finding the right people to talk to to solve/begin the murder part of the main quest. I forgot the name of the guy who was mirderedand the circumstances involved, but this is the part of the main quest that begins after the blocked passages to Arx have been cleared by the trolls. Feel free to provide as many spoilers as you would like too.

Hi Archiveian,

To begin working on the murder quest, you need to talk to people in the castle. You also need to check out Obliplanax's room.

IIRC, the people to talk to are the librarian, the alchimist (Obliplanax's friend) whose laboratory is just behind the library, the replacement guy and the prisoner, down in the cell.

I don't remember whether you get the key to the astronomer's room immediately or whether the alchimist gives it to you but you should soon be able to find some clues.

Have a try without a full spoiler. If it doesn't work for you, I'm sure someone will be happy to spell it out.

You can steal this key from Carlo (Captain of the Guard) or ask him the key if you're on the shield of the elders quest..
Eventually you can kill Carlo to take his key away:)

Archiveian,

I think Julien's hint is ahead of you in the story. If, like I believe, you have just completed the castle investigation and are starting to wonder about the crypt, then you should still go and visit the temple of Akbaa and go meet some rebels (trying to be vague to avoid outright spoilers here) before you get the shield quest and need to enter the crypt. At least, that's how my game is going (just finished the 2 parts mentioned above).

So don't jump the gun and get on with your investigation first (have you talked to the prisoner?)

If you have done all that, then apologies. You are indeed ready to enter the crypt.

I'm also investigating the murder of Orbiplanax. I've talked to the librarian, alchemist and replacement astronomer, but I find the cell empty--no prisoner. The cell I've checked is the one not far from the kitchen, with a lever that opens the grate. Is this the place? Is there something I must do to trigger the appearance of the prisoner?

Having him arrested might just do the trick.
