I am playing Chaos Theory on Hard, (1st time playing anything but the demo), and I have to admit that this is going to be a tough one for me to ghost on my next playthrough. It's tough.

The hardest difficulty, or Hard difficulty? Because Chaos Theory adopted the Thief style Normal/Hard/Expert names for difficulty settings, and I often mix it up myself. :) ( Needless to say, when I talk about Splinter Cell, I always mean the highest difficulty level. )

Although I haven't played any other Splinter Cell games apart from DA on 360, and obviously am not nearly as invested in the series as you guys are, I honestly thought it was an outstanding game.
It seems that DA, like GTA4 and T:DS, suffers largely because it is a sequal to some brilliant games.
Yes, if I hadn't played any SC before, I'd probably also say that DA is fantastic. Same with T: DS and the original Thief. But we had those predecessors, and that changes things.

On the Kinshasa level, I thought the rationale was supposed to be putting Fischer way out of his comfort level.
Yes, probably - the devs did this kind before by introducing enemies who had nightvision equipment. Hmm, okay, makes sense with the gameplay, but I still don't like the idea (running around in a warzone in broad daylight). :)

Just going over this thread in preparation for re-ghosting Splinter Cell on news of SC5. I was just thinking, what are the chances they'd release the PS2 version of Double Agent on PC? Not only was it hugely different, almost like a separate game, it also had two bonus levels, "Ship" and "Bunker", and looks like it was done in that good ol' SC1 engine which I love.
My dream release would be a sort of "Unknown Splinter Cell" collection for the PC. First there would be a re-release of the original game with all the bonus levels worked back into the game (the Xbox and PS2). And then a separate release or maybe together with the new SC1 there would be the PS2 version of Double Agent, together with its two bonus levels, plus the levels used in the PSP-only Essentials game.
Of course nothing like this will probably ever happen. The closest I'll ever get to playing those levels is getting a PlayStation, which is not something I plan on doing. I actually tried Essentials on a friend's PSP, and the controls were so abysmal I gave up after a few minutes. It would be nice to play that with a keyboard and mouse.

You may try it on PCSX2. I did, but the sound totally stuttered, and it didn't show any picture, but that was also the case with MGS3, what apparently several people played and finished on the emulator. So it might have been some trouble with my config, and it may be possible to play the game on the emu anyway.

I may actually come into a possesion of a PS2-compatible PS3 soon. If so, I'll get SC1 and SC4 as soon as I can. I haven't owned a console since the early 1990s when I had a Sega Genesis.

Xbox is like $49 now, and the SC games are MUCH better on it than PS2.

Gunsmoke is right, the difference between the Xbox originals and the PS2 ports of the Splinter Cells is night and day. Think the RE4 port for PS2, except far more gimped than that.

And for the love of all that is Holy, stay far, FAR away from the GameCube ports (assuming you get a GCN/Wii). They are even worse.

The only problem is the PS2 version has an extra mission in SC1. It's moot anyway, the PS3 I'm being given for free, from a friend who no longer needs it and doesn't wanna spend time selling it on eBay or something. It's PS2-compatible, so that's that.

That mission, and a couple others, are on Xbox as well. They are available via Xbox Live! or, for those without Live!, on an OXM Demo Disc. I am also not knocking you for the PS3....Hell, I envy you getting a BC PS3 for free!!!
