Masse you have to kill though, as that's an objective.
IIRC, you just KO him, then the explosion is what kills him actually. Doesn't really matter though...

I forgot about Nikolai, my bad. Yeah I knocked him out, but now that I think about, I think it may be possible to let him go up the stairs and grab Masse then. What do you think?
I experimented with it, and he checks the room below too often - even if you grab Masse, he would see you before you could use the computer. Though it MAY be possible, but if it is, then I'm not patient enough for that! :)

And I don't know why you had three soldiers storm in. I had the wallmines set up and when they blew up, I only had two bodies (and two soldiers would kill me before I figured that out). KOing them would be tough, since they seem to have artificial knowledge where you are and just kill you instantly on sight. And there isn't much cover in the room.
I hid behind a column - they still make a run for you, but they come close enough for you to safely airfoil or shock them. Except for the last one who stays on the balcony - but he can also be shot with some LTL gadget.
Btw, check their room before you enter the ball room - you can see all three of them. When the attack happens, two comes down on the stairs, and one stays up on the balcony.
EDIT: SC4 is not exactly the same engine as SC3, it's an "advanced" version...
EDIT2: Okay I just saw a video of a guy completing the Kola Cell level with just 3 or 4 KOs, the colonel, one or two spetznaz and Masse. He grabbed Masse before Nikolai even reached the stairs, and used gas grenades to stun the spetznaz soldiers (one or two of them fell unconscious - it happens really fast, and not easy to determine). So ... eh. :)

I'm still here. Haven't begun ghosting SC2 yet, but just updated my nVidia drivers and am finally able to play SC4. It of course is a different game than SC1/2, and so was SC3. Sadly it's doubtful Ubi will go back to the roots...
So, Malleus, maybe you can help. I hate timed missions, and the first mission in SC4 is just that. I figured out (as confusing as it was) what to do, but when it's time to "get back to the helicopter" I don't have any idea where to go.
Overall, just based on this first level, I think SC4 is not that bad. It was bad when I couldn't play it, but the new drivers solved a lot of problems. Can't wait to find some time to dive in.

Good to see ya! I was just thinking about bumping this thread with a "so what's up?" question, but it seems telepathy worked instead :D
As for DA:
Let's just say, that at the first level I also didn't think it was that bad. Basically if I just play it as a map pack, it's not that bad on the whole, but unfortunately I couldn't get used to the new theme/story/characters/everything else - it just didn't feel like SC.
And as for the last objective on the first level:
When your objective is to get back to the helicopter, move upwards. If you hacked the same console as me, you should have a ladder near it, climb it up. Basically, you have to get on the very top of the missile, and climb the rope there, then it's mission accomplished (it's just a short mission like that).
(Oh, and btw, don't forget about the Vselka levels in SC1, before you move on to SC2 (probably after DA, I guess))

Awesome, someone bumped this at just the right time :D
Because I got the original SC + Pandora Tomorrow in my Xmas loot, inspired to after this thread. :) I needed something sneaksy that also let me create wild gun & bomb/grenade mayhem - and I didn't feel like DX for the eleventy billioth time just yet! ;) I'm playing thru the levels non ghosty alongside my ghost version, and just got to the Abbatoir in the NG game. Ghosting so far I've got this :
Police Station - 1 KOs (totally spaced about throwing something ... )
Defense Ministry - 3 KOs (Nikoladze's office - need more practice or luck on that one)
Oil Refinery - 1 KO (and this whole level was save/reload abuse time, but I got it done!)
So I popped in here because ghosting, I just got downstairs in CIA, and was curious how the holy heck you guys got thru the part with the security station & the tech working on that keypad?
I note that when you round the corner, that triggers a scripted convo between tech & the guard behind the glass, but I'm not quite sure how to get around tech guy and get down to the guy over the server room fast/sneaksy enough. I figure I can hide in the keycode guy room and wait for the tech to go to the closet and hope the guy in the server room isn't near the door when I barge in :X So how'd you lot manage this part??

Nikoladze's office is a fun part. Seemingly hard but actually very easy to ghost. Read around the first few pages of this thread for the conversation Malleus and I had on this topic. As for the server room, that's also covered earlier in this thread. It's been a while since I did the CIA HQ level, so I can't give you any useful details offhand. I'm sure Malleus will be more helpful, as usual - our resident Splinter Cell Ghost Master ;)

Details, details! I suppose on the first one it is the police guy at the computer. On the second level, I guess that's the two mandatory KOs (driver+colonel), and the guy who is in Nikoladze's office already. And on the third level it should be the briefcase guy. Correct?

I think it goes something like this:
First you wait for the conversation to end, and the tech guy to start working on the keypad. They you go as close to the window on the left (on the other side of the keypad) as you can and wait. Then it's something like: wait for tech guy to start walking away - sneak in room overlooking the server room (there's a dark spot near the door you can hide in, IIRC) - wait for the right moment to grab the guy inside and return with him to that dark spot (make sure the tech guy doesn't see you) - wait until tech guy start walking away from the keypad again, and move out of the room, into some dark place in the corridor - knock out grabbed guy, and take his satchel (-> keycode) - wait until the tech guy makes another turn, and when he starts walking away, you go in the door.
If my memory serves right, this should work :) (the KO is a mandatory one, since the guy has the keycode for the door).

Makahlua, so let us know how your SC ghosting goes. :D

So, after I stopped playing Splinter Cell for a while because I was annoyed with the bathhouse mission, I returned only to find that it was still annoying.
I finished it, but it was a bit of a bitch on expert difficulty, with the forced combat. The soldiers see you, aim perfectly and fire all in the time it took me to realize that a soldier had just ran into my sight. Sucks when you can only take two bullets before crumpling to an embarrassing ragdoll position.
So, I (
http://img109.imageshack.us/my.php?image=splintercell32007033018tg4.jpg) completely botched the mission score, but at least I finally finished it.
The animation at the end of the level was neat though.
On another note, I have something I wanted to ask anyone who has played Double Agent for the PC. Is it worth €15?
Malleus on 31/3/2007 at 14:28
So you only went ballistic at the end of the level where those NVG equipped guys come to kill you? I guess that's allright - though there's only seven of them, and you have 11 KOs and 1 kill. Btw, I already figured that I'm the only one fanatic enough to finish that level like (

No. €5 maybe...

:wot:
HOW?
There are 2 guys shooting at 2 other guys in a hallway. You can't get past them without them seeing (and killing) you, unless you managed to distract them somehow. Likewise for the guys waiting for you in the dark in a ... shower, I think. They're all behind pillars, anyway.
You must have cut it close with those bomb timers, too, waiting for the night vision goggles guys to pass.
That
was on expert, right?
