Spent from 10 PM to 1 AM trying to get SC4 to run. I keep getting a Securom error 1000, says I'm using a backup, which I'm not - I'm trying to run the game from the same drive I installed it on, using the original disc. I did something that for a while gave me a "MUST CHECK" error ((
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/954105331/m/1351043205)), which I solved by launching the game via the disc's autorun, and not a shortcut. After restart, it was back to Securrom 1000, though...
What to do? Fucking inane copy protection. :eww: I paid my money for a game that refuses to run. Hilarious...

<del>PIRATE IT. See if that version works.</del>
Pirating it would be morally wrong and horrible like killing puppies.

That's funny, I did try a no-CD crack but it didn't work, since I updated with the 1.01 patch. One option is to reistall, not use the patch and use the cracked EXE.
Nice job, Ubi, forcing paying customers to resort to piracy - something you're trying to avoid, right? Fuckheads.

Any luck with the game, poroshin? I'm about to sell mine...

Yeah, reinstalling the game and not patching it worked. Haven't played much of it yet, no time. Looks very good though, and I don't see what the problem was with the interface. Looks very nice.
By the way, my friend's son has a PSP and I bought him Essentials as an easrly Christmas present. We played it together today. It's actually not a bad game. Controlling Sam is tougher on the PSP, of course, since there's no mouse. It's very much like Pandora. The first mission even takes place in almost the same jungle camp.
Again, I'd love to have a PC port. If Ubi wants to milk some money from their customers, why not release like a Special Edition with SC1 and SC2 (with all bonus levels integrated) plus SCE on a third disc. I'm ready with my credit card now :)

Well, guess what? Finished ghosting SC1! Took me a year, probbaly but I did it. :) Just the main game though, not the bonus levels.
The stats, if I'm correct, look like this:
Police Station - 0 KOs
Defense Ministry - 2 KOs
Oil Refinery - 1 KO
CIA HQ - 3 KOs
Kalinatek - 9 (?) KOs
Chinese Embassy 1 - 0 KOs
Abattoir - 7 (?) KOs
Chinese Embassy 2 - 3 KOs
Presidential Palace - 2 KOs, 1 Kill
I ran past all the soldiers in the library battle, after trying numerous times to do something smart :) I did get shot though once. In the basement I also ran away from them when the lights went down. After that, it's just Nikoladze and extraction... This was fun...
Now the bonus levels.

Looks correct, at least the numbers are exactly the same as mine :) - except for the Palace where I KOed everyone in the library and in the basement.
So, good job!:thumb:

Well, as you can see, it's not necessary, and it's a lot more realistic, I feel. An agent like Sam Fisher would not get into a firefight or a melee combat with a bunch of commandos - he'd just try to get the hell out of there as fast as possible. So as I descended from the elevator, I ran to the side of the room and inside the corridor. I'm sure if you're lucky, you can even get past the library without being shot at. As far as the basement, again, as soon as the lights go out, you just run to the exit and back up to the library (the guys here are all dead now).
I now passed Kola Cell and I'm onto the second bonus mission now. I like how, apparently, these happen after the main game, since emails and such note the death of Nikoladze. So the first mission was actually rather easy, and short. Only 1 KO and 1 Kill - as required (Alexeevich and Masse). I'm not sure if the two commandos that storm the computer room when you force Masse to use his computer count - I planted two wallmines at the entrance and they blew up. I don't think it's possible to ghost them.
P.S.: Oh I forgot another KO I had to do, but I'm not sure if it's unavoidable. It's at the very end as you near extraction, the passageway is blocked with a crouching soldier with his back to you. He doesn't go anywhere, just stands up and crouches. Perhaps it's possible to distract him... I'm not sure. I KOed him.

I had six KOs on the Kola Cell level. Alexeevich, and Masse of course - but I also had to KO Masse's guard (Nikolai:)), and the THREE spetznaz storming the ballroom.
So, the three spetznaz cannot be ghosted, but I thought it's more clean to just KO them with gadgets.
How did you avoid KOing Masse's guard? The KO at the very end is totally avoidable - just throw a bottle down the hallway and the guard will leave his position.

Yeah they tailored the content - it would have been too cheap just to add them to the middle of the original storyline (although it would have been better if these were already in the middle of the game, at release).

Masse you have to kill though, as that's an objective.
I forgot about Nikolai, my bad. Yeah I knocked him out, but now that I think about, I think it may be possible to let him go up the stairs and grab Masse then. What do you think? Good to know that crouching soldier is ghostable. And I don't know why you had three soldiers storm in. I had the wallmines set up and when they blew up, I only had two bodies (and two soldiers would kill me before I figured that out). KOing them would be tough, since they seem to have artificial knowledge where you are and just kill you instantly on sight. And there isn't much cover in the room.
By the way, I totally agree with you that these levels should've stayed in the game. And I know I've said this multiple times before, but I love the SC1 engine. I'm now playing on a widescreen monitor and it's just gorgeous-looking. The night-vision is perfect (fuzzy black-and-white), and overall I feel the graphics and models look way better than any of the three later games.
I've started playing SC4 also, just the beginning of the first level. While my PC well exceeds their recommended requirements, the game still lags badly. The current 1.01 patch doesn't do much if anything - it only makes my game unlaunchable. Hopefully the second patch is coming soon, and will actually let me play the game. Isn't this the same engine as SC3? That game runs flawlessly on my PC.
