The extra level for Pandora Tomorrow is really nothing serious, much like about a hundred meters more in the jungle (acccording to what I've heard) - it's not as serious as the NPP is SC1 PS2.
The things I heard about SC4 pissed me off so much already, the platform exclusive stuff just wasn't enough to annoy me any more. Let them make different games for each platform. Whatever.
Hovewer this "merged versus and coop" thing does sound extra bad - what'll happen to the good old coop mode? I just had the chance to play the SCCT coop campaign and I'd love to see more of it - yet it seems only the "lesser" platforms will have that kind of coop. But once again: whatever....:erg:
However I came across a decent stealth game called "Cold War" - let me just quote my short review of it from an other forum:
Quote:
The gameplay mechanics are basically the same as in SC. You control your character from a 3rd person perspective, and you have sneak through the levels, avoiding, or incapacitating enemy guards. But in addition to this there is small RPG like feature in it. On the levels you find various items, such as plastic bottles, rags, or ether flasks etc, and you can combine these into useful gadgets. Since the main character is a reporter, and not a soldier or command who can take anyone down with one hit, these gadgets are almost necessary for you to progress on the levels. For example, you can combine the plastic bottle and the rags, making a silencer that last for a number of shots. Or rags+ether flask=ether soaked rags, which can be used for a silent stealthy takedown. Oh, I almost forgot - knocked out enemies don't stay KOed for ever - you need to drug them with Anaesthetics to make them sleep long, otherwise they'll get up, and become pissed off. One more gadget I must mention is the X-Ray camera, which can be used for exploration (you can see through walls with it, and see the skeletons of the guards), and while you cannot take photos with it, you can use it do disable cameras, ignite flammable objects, or even to knock out guards. Priceless.
The graphics are quite good, IMO, but even the official reviews described it as "decent". So no super shiny shaders everywhere stuff (there are shaders of course), but it looks good, and it works well with the gameplay. Unfortunately the character animations are not the best - they are well detailed, but not really human-like, or physically correct.
The audio part is quite well done. The voice acting is very good, and musical score is also remarkable.
The AI is a bit mediocre, especially compared to SC, though you won't last long against them on combat (or at least I didn't manage). But if you stay hidden, it's fine. It seems this game is more based on stealth than on action, which is not a bad thing IMO. (though there are a few levels towards the endgame where you have to run'n'gun, but it's not that much, and the rest of the game compensates for it)
The story is excellent IMO. It brings together a bit of conspiracy theory and a fictional exlpanation of the 86' Cherobyl disaster. Very good mixture. The characters are also very well made, and they're all quite beleivable.
So, all in all, it's a very good game if you're looking for some sneaking with good atmosphere and story.
So it's not the latest&greatest, but a decent game I had lot of fun with.;)

I did buy this game a few months ago, Malleus, but didn't play much, just the first level. I got other, better games at the same time so I focused on them. From what I did play, which was very little, I thought it was good. Will try to get back into it sometime later, though.
As far as SC4, I'm actually liking what I'm hearing about it. I don't play multiplayer, so that whole part of it I don't really care about. The single-player game has been revised but it's still Splinter Cell. The storyline sounds very intricate and interesting, and seems there will be lots of challenging situations. Also lots of freedom of choice, due to conflicting objectives. I'm not a fan of the freeroam section of the game that I'm reading about, where it sounds like a very RPG hub-type of area, but it should be interesting.
I'm just frustrated that in order to experience the game fully, you need to have a PS2. Why can't there be a definitive edition on the PC? Ubisoft needs to also release "Special Collector's Editions" of the first two games to include all the console additions for the PC. Fat chance of that happening, but I can dream... Maybe for SC1's 10th Anniversary in 2011? :erg:

And even more frustrating "exclusive" news:

Ubisoft had confirmed that Splinter Cell Essentials, the franchise's first foray on the PSP, would be a prequel--meaning it would be an all-new title, not just a tweaked port.

So what of Splinter Cell Essentials, as Sam's first adventure on PSP is tentatively titled? Well, "It's not a port or a remix," Ubisoft says. The single-player game features nine missions - seven of the level maps are new, while the other two are taken from the first Splinter Cell game and Chaos Theory. Ubisoft reckons the whole thing should keep you occupied for around 13 hours.

Good to hear you have this Cold War game too. I almost finished it, and found it quite good. But you should save it for the time after the ghost challenge.;) :)
You never played SCCT Coop mode? I rarely play multiplayer games, but I was interested in this game mode since the anouncement of SCCT. Unfortunately the not too good netcode, and issues with the local internet hosting prevented me from trying it out, until this Christmas, when I had the chance to play it on LAN. And I think it's awesome. Not like SvM which is too fast paced for those who got used to the SP, it's basically SP with two operatives. So if you have the chance to try it out, and the luck to make it work, give it a try.
As for the exclusive stuff - it's likely that we'll see things like this in the future. It brings some extra profit for the publisher, 'cause there are people who have a PC and a Console, or more than one consoles, and some of them will buy each version. So if you want the FULL experience, you'll have to pay a whole lot of money. Funny, it's almost lucky that I'm not really interested in this game, 'cause this way I avoid being annoyed by this "exclusive shit for everyone!" thing...:erg:

No, and it definitely sounds cool, but the DL is so slow (would take 8-10 hours - I have a fast internet, but this host only sends at 30-40KB/s) - I'll try to get it anyway...

It was going about 180 kbps for me, personally. Finished it overnight, but haven't watched yet.

Yup. He obviously rehearsed and knows where everything is, etc. Very pro. Bypassing the restaurant in Chinese Embassy is genius - I never knew about that route. I liked the meat room stuff. And the final battle in the Abbatoir. Haven't seen much of the video, but that was cool. Also the Georgian Ministry, that was done with style. I was a bit confused why he dragged the guy around half the level, but then I realized he avoided 1 KO that way - smart. Also skipping dialog like he often does is a bit of a cheat. It game him an unfair advantage in the bathroom with Ivan. But yes, it's obvious the AI is toned way down on the Xbox. He was often in plain sight of the guards and they just walked past him.
I think continuing on with the Ghost Challenge now is moot :)
