I downloaded a prepatched version of Thief 2 1.18 because the widescreen patch was giving me poo about the bytes not matching up. While this prepatched version was great in not requiring a CD in the drive I do so miss the CD loading splash screen. After all, even something as small as that still took time for certain FM makers to create such as Calelndra's Legacy and CoSaS. I guess I don't need to have that screen back before I play but I would at least like to be directed as to where in the zip file the artwork for that splash is stored so that I may view and enjoy all the work that went into said custom missions.
A-Thank you!

I'll assume your "downloaded" version is from GOG or Steam or something similar. That said, the CD loading screen isn't usually where custom FM artwork shows up, it's almost always in the main menu screen. There might be an exception or two (like T2X maybe?), but for the most part the custom artwork is going to be visible no matter how you start up Thief.
Also, with your mention of the widescreen patch and Thief 1.18, I'm guessing you don't know about the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141148) unofficial 1.21 patch. Might want to check that out.

No I mean the little screen that pops up on your desktop as the CD is being read. Not the artwork that is located in the main menu screen "New Game, Load Game". Very few FMs bother to add their own splash screen.
I've never heard of the 1.21 can you break down the basics of this patch?

OK, but you said you wanted to "enjoy all the work that went into said custom missions" while asking about the splash screen. That indicates you think FM authors are providing new, custom splash screens. You also referenced a "zip file" which would only apply to FMs. As far as where the Thief 2 splash image is stored on the CD or the Thief 2 install directory, sorry, I have no idea.
NewDark does a ton of things (you might want to read the docs), but the simplest way to state it is that it allows Thief to play smoothly on current hardware systems. No more need for DDFix, the widescreen patch, or any other patch/mod/method/trick for getting Thief installed on modern day PCs.

It was ever since I used the prepatched T2.exe file that the splash screen went away. I did this because at the time the only way the stupid widescreen stand alone patch would work was if I did this. It kept saying it couldn't do it on my original exe because it wasn't the right size. Weird.
Can I just grab the T2 CD and replace the exe? Or would that cause problems.

I assume you are talking about this ?
Inline Image:
http://www.gnartsch.de/Thief-FM/beta/00000407.jpgYou should find this on your CD, named 00000407.256
Rename it so it has a .bmp file-extension and view at your leisure.
But adding that back to the game would make no sense at all.
Or are you talking about the INTRO movie ?
Just click the 'Intro' button in the main menu.
EDIT: Ok, this is the right splashscreen:

LOL that is absolutely horrid but yes thats what I'm talking about. I don't mind adding it back to the game because some FMs use their own splash screen like Calendra's Legacy and CoSaS.
If adding it back to the game is not possible then I'd settle for just pointing me where in the FM zip I can find the pic.

Ok, now I understand.
I just looked up Calendras Legacy - and indeed it has its own custom splashscreen.
Just like the 'Securom' splashscreen they are always found in the root folder of any FM which actually has one.
And their name is always like : 00000409.256 or 00000409.016
Just rename it to 00000409.bmp in order to view it.
But I am afraid there is no way at all to get that being displayed these days, unless you play vanilla Thief2 without anything like NewDark, widescreen patch or whatever else. And I agree: it's a loss.
