Just finished this, got the bad ending, then reloaded a save and got the good ending after some puzzling out. Apparently there's a 3rd ending as well but I have no idea how to get it. Anyway, really enjoyed this little 3 hour space horror game. There's refreshingly little hand holding. At the start of the game you're given an objective and then it's up to you to figure out how to achieve it. There's a lot of neat little touches in the environment as well, but I don't wanna spoil it.
It's currently -50% on Steam, €5, and I would highly recommend it to TTLGers! :thumb:

Spirits of Xanadu in under 2hrs and the game gets the Shittiest Ending Ever™ award! Seriously
I made it to the sleeping pod, get a picture of earth, roll credits. WAT. I feel like I missed something (never understood the Kabuki masks and Lotus
except for other japanese references like text + pictures on one of crews monitors).
Overall I am torn. It has good atmosphere, nice nods to System Shock 2 and a simple but effective aesthetic. At the same time, it's got shitty combat (ugh the exploding droids) and feels so... bare bones? Again I feel I missed something deeper, but basically what I got was
crew finds weird artefact that makes them go berserk on each other. I did not read all of the book pieces (tl;dr), and haven't figured out what the numbers scribbled on them are for. I also didn't manage to get into the 2 keypad locked doors I found, no idea where the references are.
I donno, I wanna call it unfulfilling, but I also feel its partly my fault for not exploring enough...?
About the ending you got.
If you look closely you'll see it's not just a picture of earth, there's also a text saying "Mission Complete. Casualties: 4 billion something". Going back to earth wiped out most of humanity! Because you were infected! You can tell you're infected by scanning yourself with the scanner on the desk in the laboratory btw. Things don't have to turn out that way though. Search around in Zhao's quarters for something that'll set you on the path to a better ending.

While we're veering off topic: Apparently XSEED, those wonderful localizers of classic Falcom games, is localizing Xanadu Next and releasing it on Steam.

I did hear that (be it after my post above). Presumably given the recent XSEED Falcom releases, it will also show up on GOG as well.
I imagine that will be slightly confusing for fans of Spirits of Xanadu to have an unrelated release called 'Xanadu Next' appear :).

I did get that, and I assumed it was because I touched the artefact. Can you actually cure yourself?
Postmortem (rightfully) got a lot of crap for showing outcomes too subtly via text, but this is like ten times worse. A small little one liner on a static screen, really? Totally lacks any form of impact. Hence my shitty ending comment in the other thread.
I watched the other 2 endings on YT but they're frankly not much better.
