Haha, no... really?
NO FUCKING WAY. REALLY??

A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning,” said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
It's like they're making Spideyville the series writ large.
Fucking hilarious.
Despite Spiderman 3 being an abomination, which I largely hold the studio responsible for, due to them shoe-horning Venom into the plot, I still think Raimi was a fantastic director and Maguire a decent lead for the franchise.
Ugh, Hollywood. Just ugh.

Well Sam didn't wanted to do it.
And so everyone from the old cast was thrown out the door and reset the movies series to something even more crappier.

What the... joke, surely? I mean, this is a reboot of a franchise that's not even fifteen years old. Even then you need to have a fairly abominable movie (preferably involving a lot of ice) before it's neccessary to throw everything away and start over.

ahahahahahahaha marvel continues to realize their real moneymaker is a conveyor belt of shitty movies based on the half-assed melodramatic comics they've been running into the ground for over 20 years

It sounds like Raimi (wisely) played hardball, and perhaps did revolutionary things like refuse to honour a release date until the script is locked.
(
http://chud.com/articles/articles/22113/1/THE-DEVIN039S-ADVOCATE-TWILIGHT-FOR-SPIDER-MAN-AND-HOLLYWOOD/Page1.html) Over here there's the notion that it's all part of capturing the 'new' tween market.
You never know, but it wouldn't surprise me. It's like the ultimate Barnam principle and it's been at work for a while now; "Every year there's new people who have no idea who Madonna and Pat Benettar are or what they wore in 1985! We can sell those designs all over again!".
I'll be intruigued to see what kind of people this sort of thing produces; people who've seen every story and fashion at least twice by the time they're 25. Hopefully the weight of it all will cause pop culture to 'go nova'. You never know though; Avatar is a complete rehash and mostly no one notices for the nine feet tall blue people when I talk to them (
people who aren't dumb and have Dances with Wolves
in their DVD collections).

Yeah, at the very least I hope its an exercise in Studio Arrogance and the franchise comes tumbling down around their ears in fiery expensive chunks. I'd shudder if this became some multimillion dollar runaway success story.
Hopefully Raimi can continue making the movies he wants to make (like Drag Me To Hell) and studios give him the creative latitude that his box office success merits.

Dude. You realize that Sony owns the film rights to Spider-Man and Marvel has nothing to do with the Spider-Man movies that Sony makes beyond collecting a percentage, right?
And there's some word that Sony was prepping the Spider-Man reboot alongside Spidey 4 the whole time, and their original plan was to release 4 in 2011 and close that version of the franchise, and then release the reboot in 2012 (and it makes sense, you don't drop a director and then announce 'reboot' in the same day if those gears weren't already turning). But then Raimi said 'I can't make this movie if you guys keep fucking me around' and they said 'Guess you're not gonna make the movie, then. Laterz.'

That doesn't change the fact that rebooting a successful franchise less than ten years old is fucking retarded.
Edit: I had a similar problem with the pseudo-reboot of Hulk too but at least they had the excuse there for the original being critically maligned.
fett on 12/1/2010 at 06:43
Besides Toby M. and Doc Oc, the casting was horrible overall. Really, on par with the Star Wars prequels. Pretty much the same thinking here that spawned a new Hitchhiker's Guide entry post-Adams. Teenagers + Stupidity = $$$$$$

Vote with your asses.
I quite liked Ang Lee's Hulk and I thought having a reboot so close was dumb so I've never seen it. This is the same.
