The movies? They're pretty damned close, apart from the "how do I became spiderman" thing. but then in the wayback, radioactivity was the obvious answer to everything like that. Now it's GENETICS GONE AWRY OMG. Or just vanilla Mutants.
But when you're dealing with Dr Octopus and Green Goblin, they're pretty straightforward storylines... of course, the movies had to basically distill years and years of comic book storyline, so it's all a little jumbly. Overall though, it was about as faithful as the X-Men movies or Superman. Give or take.

also no Gwen Stacey in Spiderman 1.
But apparently she IS going to be in Spiderman 3.

It doesn't help that comics continuity is CONSTANTLY changing. Except in the Ultimate universe, which is why it's better
For instance, it's now canon that Superman was in a birthing matrix on his way to Earth which should have taught him all about Krypton but didn't because it was damaged. Instead he had to learn about where he was actually from when Lex Luthor contacted Krypton of the past. Though this might have changed again in the last few weeks ;)
As for how close the Ultimate origins are to the movies, fairly. Spider-Man becomes so when bitten by a GM spider made by Oscorp. Doc Ock worked for Oscorp and has the arms fused to him in an accident. Norman is sort of genetically enhanced/changed by a serum that makes him sort of insane. The characters are abit different though. As said above, in the movies they try to make the villains a bit more understandable but in the Ultimate comics, they're fairly evil.
Spider-Man didn't really have a plot past "Green Goblin vs Spider-Man", did it? Doc Ock was never working on a limitless energy supply in the Ultimate comics, he was doing some genetics work.

The only other "version" of Venom (I think) is Ultimate Venom. And those bloody Ultimate comics are so far spun off from things that who the fuck knows? Ultimate Galactus is a massive colony of space bugs, and Ultimate Vision is a chick. Go figure. There's also the Marvel Zombies run, if you really want to see how far things have gone over in that section of geekdom.
You hadn't said those things when I replied!
Ultimate comics aren't spun off, they're a fresh start. Which was blatantly needed.
Oh, and we've spent so much time discussing Venom that nobody's mentioned how little like a symbiotic alien/whatever that costume looks. It just looks like his old costume dipped in black paint.
"In the recent Ultimate Spider-Man game, Eddie gains full control of the Suit after finally absorbing the remnants of the first sample in Peter's blood via the Carnage creature, and gains the spider-symbol on his chest."
Interesting! That Ultimate Spider-Man game is actually canon so that's how they've wrapped it up, I guess. I was wondering if Brock would be back in the comics, not having played the game.

Well, I'm assuming that the symbiote will have different appearances on different people... even when Spidey wore the black suit, he didn't have gnashing teeth, big long tongue and grotesquely proportioned muscles like Venom, did he?
Stands to reason that Spidey will look like Spidey in Black. Although I do hope he has a white, or at the very least a silvery-white, spider on his chest. It looks cool.

This is a good point and you may be right, that COULD be him with the Venom suit on. I'm just sayin' it's not certain, as has been assumed from post 1, it seems.

I'm thinking that the most MOVIE-likely plotline to involve Venom will come in the shape of the Captain Jameson getting infected with the symbiote in space, or unknowingly bring it back to Earth, and then Spidey will be involved in some heroic rescue of said astronaut as the spaceship hurtles back to Earth.
As long as they don't skimp on the motivations/characterisations, I have no problems with multiple villains - the setup for Green Goblin mkII already exists, so maybe he'll team up with one of these other guys. I can get how the Venom and Spidey backstory creates a good backbone for a vengeance plot...
So what about Sandman? What's the TL;DR on him?

I still haven't seen either of the first two Spider-Man movies, despite being an Evil Dead fan...maybe I should.

The second one is where you really feel Raimi behind the camera. That operation scene with the chainsaw still slaps a shit-eating grin across my face every time.
