I was playing an Atronach char and I went to click on an imperial cult shrine for restore attribute service ... only to have to reclick several times because of the restore spell keep getting adsorbed!
I was initially upset at this ... until I suddenly noticed that my magicka level has refilled from 1/3 to full on the very first click!
I read about people using summons to recharge magicaka, but nobody mentioned shrines as well?! My guess is that the shrines effect are considered the same as external spells targeted on the player. So far I only used the restore attribute effect of the imperial cult shrine ... I suspect that it casts a very high-level multi-part restore attribute spell, so each part is checked seperately to see if it's adsorbed. A likely theory is that the potential magicaka gain will be dependent of the level of the spell effect of the shrine service used ...
The disadvantage of the shrines is that you can't use it in the field; you have to get to a Temple or Cult shrine. But it's not too hard since a cheap Intervention spell will get you close enough.
The advantage is that for a moderate rank in the Cult or Temple, recharging is painless (no damage caused on failed adsorb) and free! So I start making detours to the Cult shrines whenever I wanna top off my magicka. I normally use Interventions as shortcuts back to certain towns/forts, so just a little extra footwork ...

Is there really much point to carrying around an intervention scroll when you coudl just walk around with some magicka potions? Really, the idea of purchasing those scrolls and being sent back, getting to a shrine, then walkign back to a previous location doesn't seem worth the effort especially if your not a high enough ranking member in the temple.....just doesn't seem very practical....:erg:

I knew about that already, I mainly just use alchemy to make lots of restore magicka potions and eat daedra hearts whenever I come across them.
And yes, it casts 4 spells totalling 175 magicka.

Absorb. The word you're looking for is "Absorb". If you adsorbed the shrine effect, that would mean that it stuck to your skin.
There are plenty of shrines in the field. They're located in lots of tombs, so you're never more than a few minutes walk away from one provided that you don't mind fending off a few tomb inhabitants.
Personally I wouldn't bother with potions or shrines. There's a wonderful spell named "summon ghost" that conjurs up your very own personal Atronarch recharger. Just throw a few punches at it, then bask in the incoming Ghost Curse energy.

Yucky backwards 'd'! Begone, foul creature, you have been reversed.

Well, firstly, this char doesn't use Conjuration. She uses Enchantment, Mysticism, Alteration and Restoration. A fighter-mage build. She fights melee, but had to fall back on Adsorb Health for certain tough fights.
(Of course I already found a few rings/amulets with Summon Ancestor Ghost blah blah blah, but I don't bother using summons or bound weapons for this build; in fact she adheres almost strictly to the Major/Minor skills chosen at the start with the exception of Speechcraft ... need to bribe/taunt someone sooner or later)
I used to summon Ancestor Ghosts as a training punching bag on a preliminary build, since I could attack it with an unenchanted weapon which wouldn't hurt it but the hits will be tallied towards raising my weapon stat ... and of course, it will retaliate and raise my block/armour stat ...
I mentioned it as an option since I never come across anywhere that mentioned this. A usable option for those who frequent sidetrack into Imperial Cult or Temple shrines. I use Interventions frequently so this recharge option is feasible for me. Say I finish off a quest in the remote wilderness, then use Intervention for a quick shortback back to civilised areas to report back to the taskgiver and detour by the shrine for a recharge ... I'm not saying that I keep teleporting back whenever I run low but it makes for an intersting option if I'm willing to Mark a location halfway through a dungeon, Intervention back to recharge then Recall to continue. However I'm sure most people prefer leaving a semi-permanent Mark besides a merchant to Recall back with a load of things to sell for $$$; I leave mine besides Fighters' Guild weapon/armour traders since these things are the heaviest.
Carrying about Intervention scrolls is an odd arguement ... even if you don't use Mysticism, it shouldn't be hard to find amulets that cast Intervention (a set of easy quests accessible early in the game nets you amulets for both spells as a reward), so the scrolls are largely redundant after that except for certain quest requirements.

Care to tell me about those quests? I'm yet to even hear of them and I am sure it would prove most useful to me.....

It's a mages guild quest given by Edwinna in Ald'Ruhn.

Figures......I never do mages guild quests......
