I ride a motorcycle, the only vehicle I own, thanks for the insight though, I'm sure you're perfectly capable of handling the day you're on my ass and my rear tire blows causing my bike to instantaneously low-side as your tires crush me on my bike on it's side skidding down the highway...all within a tenth of a second. AND, i'm sure that at least 80-90% of those fatalities are simply people being stupid and either not paying attention, or just being bad drivers. I'm sure 1/3 or so is drunk drivers and the rest is people driving under the influence of other drugs, or talking on a cell phone, or trying to impress someone, or sliding on ice and hitting a tree, all stuff that can be prevented had they been driving safe.

I don't see the problem here. I'm simply saying people should be able to drive fast if they have the capabilities. I don't see why anyone would prefer driving slow...

AND: I am very sympathetic for bikers, I ALWAYS give them the right-of-way and stay way clear. It's just a smart thing to do concidering if they even get bumped, they're dead! I just want you to realize i'm not being an idiot. i'm saying I hate people who are idiots about driving. No mater the speed.

I completley realize that most fatal crashes are due to fast driving, but it's only the speed that kills them, it's the drivers idiotic actions that cause them to crash in the first place.

I think the point is that most idiots tend to think they're in complete and perfect control while speeding. Until they have an accident, that is, and even then that's probably someone else's fault.

Ya and I get that completley, and thats why I had the idea of issuing a seperate 'Advanced' drivers liscense to people who can drive fast safley. It will never happen, but I know that if everyone was a great driver and could pay attention, the ammount of fatalities would drop dramatically and the ammount of crashes would make insurance companies dance naked in the corn feild. but it's not like that and it'll never happen because mrs. applesauce wants to have a drivers liscense so she can be independant and drive herself to bingo every thursday. And because Johnny two-shoes wants to drive his freinds to the movies and speed around so they'll all say "WOW johnny, you're a really cool scary driver! you almost missed that guy in the crosswalk but you swerved and hit him dead on!" And so billy can drive to the bar and get wasted because he cant get a girl, then drive home 2 citys away, crashing himself into an oncoming semi, or a car full of a family.

Well, a lot of drivers would fail their test if they re-took it again now (well, according to some news article a few weeks ago), so a 'fast drivers license' wouldn't necceserily work. If someone else is acting like an idiot on the road, it doesn't really matter how skilled you are at driving - an accident could just as easily happen.

I noticed a patrolman behind me, dogging me for some time, who took the same off ramp and kept an eye on my rear view. There was a big rig driving slower than I was but I kept behind it hoping pman would pass. When it became clear he would not, I started to go around the 18 wheeler but just as some have stated he sped up so that he could "win" and I could not. The cop had gotten behind me so I could not go more than 5 mph over the limit. The truck would not let me pass.

Fine. It's a four lane and a nice day, I'll slow gradual so cop will back off and I can get behind truck and he can go on if he will. When I get about even with the rear bumper on come the lights. I know because I was watching my rear view as they did. My response was an instantaneous pull behind truck, a fraction of a second.

Cop pulls behind me again so I pull off the road. He berates me for having my head up my ass and what if he were on his way to an accident and so on. I ask if I did not pull over immediately when his light came on. He says that's not the point. I realize he is crazy and shut up. He yells until he gets enough and leaves.

If he hadn't a uniform on I would have taken home somebodys tooth in my pocket, his or mine I don't know, but it was a nice day and I didn't get a ticket from someone who had singled me out to relieve pent up hostility.

Fuck your story.

I think that terminology's part of the problem, to be honest - over here the enforcement agencies tend to take pains to correct you by pointing out that it is the 'overtaking' lane not the 'fast' lane. Besides, if there's a speed limit on the stretch of roadway, both lanes could conceivably be travelling at the same speed - a situation which should occur on the dual carriageway I travel on every morning, but of course does not.

Also, just for the record, it wouldn't be sufficient to say 'oh, someone pulled out in front of me, it's their fault I hit them' - certainly it would be a large contributory factor, but the authorities would be expecting you to anticipate that such an event might occur.

If they put me in charge of handing out licenses to drive congestion on the highway would be nil because 1/2 the people who drive now would be taking the bus.

First I'll test you ability to parallel park. If you can't handle this simple maneuver you certainly can't handle a car at highway speed.

Do you know what a merge lane is for? Well at least 1/2 of you have no fucking clue. If the traffic is going 65-75 how the hell do you think you are going to blend into traffic going 35? Oh yeah and you fucking assholes who don't give a bit of room to folks trying to merge need a stick in the eye.

Brake checking and slowing down to piss off an asshole tailgater may be somewhat satisfying but is ultimately dangerous because an enraged asshole just becomes more dangerous. Just remember Sly's adage and you'll be better off..ALWAYS let the asshole have the right-of-way...

Get that fucking phone out of your ear! Seems like 1/2 the time I see somebody doing something dumb I see a phone too.
