Henke, that was beautiful.

And It's not so much that I want to speed, as I just don't want to be slowed down if I'm going the speed limit.
Well, you have a dilemma there, 'cos it is going to happen. A lot.
I couldn't give an arse whether you think you're safe driving like a tosser. What I care about is whether my 90 year old granny can cross the road from her house to the bus stop without feeling intimidated and whether the roads are conducive places for the kiddies to cycle to school. I'm sorry you're easily frustrated, but that's not their problem or mine; it's yours. I know you're only a teenager, but being in charge of a car on the public roads is a hefty responsibility. Try growing up.

And again I have no problem slowing for ped's. Or bikers.

Oh come on now. If you 'need' to be somewhere, leave 10 minutes earlier..
Which I gladly do when I have the chance.

I don't think that conflating everyday fast driving and 'emergency' fast driving is necessarily going to help this discussion..
I wasn't talking about the driving fast; I was talking about the fool that slows down just to be an ass. That person never knows why the person behind them is trying to drive so fast.

Whilst I see that your job obviously involves some element of urgency, I'm also a little surprised that no-one keeps back-up units around..
They all have backup units of batteries and such, but when you're dealing with $50,000 + equipment; it gets a little bit tough to get the funding for backup equipment.

Assuming that its safe to exceed the speed limit (i.e. break the law) if you're good at it then surely it should be safe for me to talk on my handheld mobile phone and drive at the same time, because I can do it safely. Or drink and drive, because I'm good at it and I can do it safely.
And they should have another driving test where you use your mobile phone and you can phone and drive when you've passed it. And another one where you get drunk and drive around so you're allowed to do that too.
If you can safely talk on a phone and drive, go for it. If you can be the judge and adjust speed and braking accordingly and maintain safe driving, then I see no problem. Drinking on the other hand alters your perception which negates your ability to make correct choices. Anytime you’re impaired you're dangerous. And in my city/ state, it is legal to talk on a phone and drive at the same time. I simply choose to use a hands free kit in my car because I do not trust my ability to conversate whilst making quick driving choices.

I would but I'm not quite sure how too, unless the only way is to copy/paste the quote tags...

Down boy!
Incidentally, I think it's possible to deplore dangerous driving and be skeptical of speed limits at the same time.
Ultimately I think the best way to keep speeds down in busy or residential areas is actual physical impediments to speed, such as speed bumps or chicanes. This might be more effective and cost less than just trying to force people to obey speed limits.

I just hope you all don't think I just want to speed everywhere, I guess I have a picture in my head that I really haven't yet drawn out... There is a really busy road here in town and it's also a highway. Now when the highway enters the town, the speed limit drops to 45. People getting off the highway usually go about 50. People in the town just driving to the grocery store usually drive about 30. I've seen more slow drivers get pulled over on this road than I have speeders. People are really stupid and aggressive on this road because the traffic builds up for blocks and blocks and stays like that for a long time. There is a river in my town that separates one half of the town, by the other so the few bridges that cross the river are really busy. I'm simply saying that knowing that the traffic is bad on this road and that it already slows people from getting from point A to point B enough, won't people just keep up the pace? Or at least stay to the right knowing it's a highway. Even if they just go 40... I see absolutely no reason what-so-ever to drive so slowly. What is the point of having a vehicle if you're not going to use it for what it's made for?
And the thing that really gets to me is everyone here thinks they need to own a BIG truck, like 2008 Chevy super duty 4 ton with a big ass deer-guard in the front! Then they drive slowly! Or when I see that the one slowing the traffic is like a Mustang Fastback!!?! HELLO!!! You buy a car with the word FAST in the name, then you drive Really Freaking Slow?
We also have super slow accelerators. Like by the time they reach the next stop-light 3 blocks down, they've finally sped up to the speed limit.
Haha thanks!:thumb:
Can no-one really agree with me on any of this? I mean, I realize they may drive how they please but... Why did we invent cars in the first place? I know it wasn't to drive around really slowly alone...

Given that the first commercial internal combustion automobile had a speed of 10 miles per hour .. ;)
