Breathed is more comparable to Trudeau, in which case he shines.
True, although even on that front Breathed comes up a very distant second.

Yeah, but when I was 14 I didn't know what the hell Trudeau was on about half the time. Now I think he's great, but he'll never replace Breathed in my heart.

Trudeau was better when his comics were for a college paper.

Trudeau has tended to let political messages trump the entertainment value of his strips. It was t'other way 'round with Breathed, and much more good natured as well. I've never felt like Breathed was attacking anyone, just ribbing them a little.

Exactly...Doonesbury was never really funny.

Attacking was Hobbs job.
I think one must be a grownup to like Doonesbury better. That would be my guess as I sure as hell don't. But then, I don't get the comparison. Apples and porcupines? Politics and the joy of being alive seem polar opposites to me.
Anyway, Bloom beats anything out today for humor except Dilbert which captures the absurdity of the workplace too well sometimes. When he said he was going to end the vicious cycle of reordering stock I laughed but I felt like crying.

I used to like Doonesbury a lot when I was in high-school...back in the middle paleolithic era when disco was still the hot new thing. Not so much since then.

Makes me wish I wasn't strapped for cash! :(
I love this comic, though sadly I discovered it long after it ended...
