For those that remember
reading worshipping the series in each daily newspapers during its run, and realize that the "collections" published over the years are not complete (having omitted many classics), IDW is releasing the complete series in a five volume collection: (

Seriously cool news, and hopefully one that will lead to a boost in the Meadow Party's membership--we can take the country one dandelion at a time! ATTICA ATTICA ATTICA

Great news indeed, although the comic itself has aged rather poorly (other than as a historical snapshot of American pop culture and politics in the 80's).

But the character personalities still hold up.
Bill the cat is still my ultimate rock god.

I had that very Deathtounge cartoon plastered on my folder through most of high school, and proudly wore a Billy and the Boingers t-shirt prior to that. My sad little group of anarchist friends actually campaigned for Bill 'N Opus when Bush Sr. ran for president.
I fucking loved Bloom County - have an Opus Dandelion Society stuffed animal sitting on my desk as we type this. Breathed was one of the great cartoonists of the old school Sunday comics, possibly second only to Bill Watterson.

Utterly, completely, and overwhelmingly second to Bill Watterson.

As an aside ( I have all the printed collections), he also did graphics for bits of "Secondhand Lions".
Loved his style, and I must confess, Opus was my favorite. Dallas, was an oaf. Sadly too many under 30's today are his clone. :ebil:

I have great love for Watterson, it's just that he came along much later in my life. Bloom County was the comic I laughed at and felt like a smart kid because I got it, and most other kids my age didn't. Watterson means a lot more to me now that I have kids, but Breathed was spot on with his lampoons of Star Wars, heavy metal, John Cusack films, Reaganomics, and all things 80's. He mostly lacks Watterson's poignancy, but Breathed is in a bit of different camp on that point until he did Outland (and barely then). The two are apples in oranges in many respects. Breathed is more comparable to Trudeau, in which case he shines.
