yeah, but the comment wasn't about legal issues or anything, but using the Dark Engine for something completely different which you basicly need to forget the whole point of the engine seams... a bit disrespectable to me.. It's like using the Sonic Engine to make a slow moving game.. you completey by-pass a major fact about the engine..
R Soul on 6/3/2009 at 16:00
I don't think it's disrespectful. In fact it shows just how versatile the engine is.

@ManicMan:
Why do you think people would take the challenge of building a highly configurable and customizable game-engine if they just could "hard code" what they need for a specific game? A good game engine is made to build games rather than programming same things all over again. And as R Soul said, the DarkEngine is a good engine so why not use it for other games?
Just let TypeRED do his work the way he wants. Or do you blame sterlino for using the DarkEngine to build the Flying Age too? Or the other FM author's who pushed the engine in directions no one ever thought about before?
ManicMan on 6/3/2009 at 18:18
it wasn't meant as an insult or anything. It was a simple question. Flying age is more a good FM set then a major change i fine but anyway, the point of the question was to see why. Was there a good reason or was it just something stupid ^_^
For pushing the engine to it's limit it a great idea and a nice test. I'm a programmer myself, though only offiically up to diploma level, but unofficially, i do alot ^_^ Still think this isn't really pushing the limits of the engine more then rewriting it to a stage it probebly isn't really the dark engine but still. My views are my views and i shouldn't give in to peer pressure... hey, i'm English not american (No offense)

To answer the question why he had chosen the DarkEngine is simple:
Quote Posted by TypeRED
and, no, i dont have the source code, i dont even know how to write code for programs. ;)
this was all done with dromed functions and custom scripts
And in the german ttlg forum he is known for his experiments with the DarkEngine and combined with the fact that he's been working with that Engine for almost 10 years now ;)
ManicMan on 6/3/2009 at 18:36
Another good point then and that's me happy enought ^_^ I don't speak much german myself and my german friends aren't always of too much help so on the german TTLG i'm not up on what's going on.
isn't it nice when we all get along? now where's that Sheeps shop gone....

I agree, I have nothing against you and I didn't mean to offend you in any way. But I was a little bit angry about all that "negative responses" and felt sorry for TypeRED. Such things aren't good motivation to finish your work, the work you mostly do for others...
ManicMan on 6/3/2009 at 19:02
oh god, don't i know it. try doing an animated series and audio storys when you have to fight like hell to get any form of support or feedback..
but at the same time, a topic full of yes men is about the same amount of help ^_^ even if it is a bit of an ego-boost.

If you plan on going into programming for a career, you're going to have knock that off. Or get used to being punched in the face on a regular basis.
ManicMan on 7/3/2009 at 10:04
Oh, i don't plan on it as a career, i make enought money programming at the moment. I got all the training for my own personal reasons. Anyway, back to the topic at hand huh?
