did anyone get the game to run properly yet?
Yes, I did. Once I hit 86 machines, I had to manually exit, just like you said.
Please, continue playing around with dromed, I want to see what you come up with next. And release whatever you've got currently.
btw, I think a good upload site is Filefront.

try to ram enemies, it will cost you 4 energy points and destroys the enemy.
did you crash your ship already? try it, just to see if everything works fine.
i'm uploading to filefront at the moment...
EDIT: additional link edited to first post

Yes, filefront is superb... I use it myself... But the thing is that you'll want an account. if typered doesn't want an account, i'd go with something quick and easy (though you can just upload on filefront randomly, but i wouldn't do that). I found (
http://www.flyupload.com/)
Edit: Guess typeRED did filefront anyway... Ah well. Good to have a second link. :)
Edit 2:Wow... I don't know how you did it. Heck, I don't know how you were able to do it without requiring thief at all. This is amazing. I tried it out.. Not bad for a first release. Still has a long way to go though.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but i was just curious if any more work was done on this?
ManicMan on 4/3/2009 at 08:17
just noticed this, thanks to sneakie really ^_^ and no-one seams to have address an early post..
Quote:
1. this game uses the dark engine (Thief 1/2 demos do that too)
2. this game runs without cd (Thief 1/2 demos do that too)
3. it runs without the need to have a dark engine game (Thief 1/2 demos do that too)
4. this game has no content of any dark engine game (Thief or SS2)
5. i dont make money with it
so whats wrong?
if this is illegal, so why does the Thief2 MP thread still exist?
it contains a thief2.exe without cd protection
think about it... i want to share this to let people have some fun, not to get anything for it
While i'm not 100% against this, that is a pretty as a reason why it's 100% Legal..
1) Yes, it uses the Dark Engine BUT without permission of the creators and Owners
2) The Thief Demos are just that. If you have CD Hacked the full Dark Engine like that, it is very border line (Even if you have the oringal CD)
3) That is a point which MAKES this illgeal. Like Doom Engine games (not the junk Doom 3, REAL Doom) you need to have some oringal files else you are illgeally sharing the engine.
4) It uses the Engine, thus has content, even if only via Source code.
5) While i think this matters, legally it doesn't really.
I don't know any thief MP patch that doesn't need the CD and the oringal Game to play it.. a Patch is something different.
Like i said, i have no problems with this (and of course, i am in no position TO have a problem) but it's kinda a pet peave when someone gives such an easily defeat set of reasons... But, if you really wanna do this game in the Dark Engine (though WHY the Dark Engine i will never know), then fine ^_^

Who cares!!!! The engine is over ten years old, the creators have dispersed to other companies, and the originating company no longer exists.
Artistic assets, like textures, models and sounds would be considered content...not engine alone...without proper content to push, the engine is useless.
So again, who cares. You can't play Thief with it.
I would say the same to anyone who wants to port Thief 1 levels into Thief 2 at this point. Just do it...express your creativity.

The problem is, regardless of of what you or I think about this issue, the TTLG forum admins don't want talk of porting thief 1 levels to thief 2. (Yes, they still care.) So yeah, you can do it, just don't go blabbing about it here.

I believe Manicman also said that go ahead and do it (i.e he does not care). He just pointed out that according to the letter of the law it's illegal. And he is right in that. Your counter arguments would not stand in court for a second if someone would decide to pursue it. Of course the chances for that are really small.

Two notes for those points. First I belive that Eidos maintained legal continuity to all Thief games. My Thief2 CD came with both TTLG and Eidos logos and the licence agreement refers to both companies. TTLG ceased to exist but Eidos still exists. So the original creators dispersed, but that does not mean that you can violate licence agreement.
Second: Part of licence agreement. "you will not reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, translate, adapt, modify or otherwise alter the product in whole or in part nor attempt to do any of the above under any circumstances unless and to the extent permitted to do so by applicable law". It's not about being able to play Thief with it. You can't ADAPT it either. You can't modify it (Yes, strictly speaking, all the patches that MODIFY the exe file are also illegal). Similar user agreement exists on Eidos site for any downloadable software, including DEMOS, so you can't hide behind the DEMO either.
Again, this is academic, because they will not go after you, but if they would decide to go after you, you would not have any chance on court.
ManicMan on 4/3/2009 at 18:38
^_^
Of course, the main time Companys HAVE to go after you, is if someone tells them in a letter or e-mail or such like. Underlaw, they have no choice but to act then because the law is being broken and they are aware of it. Nothing to do with them knowing about it though. There is a difference being a company 'knowing people do it' and 'an letter telling them about it'.. A few cases have come up over the last year to do with that i believe. As long as they don't know in a letter or anything, it's fine (some of them even like some of the stuff going on ^_^)
TypeRED on 4/3/2009 at 20:11
no law can stop me editing the stuff that i have on my pc, as long as i dont share it for money.
if you think that what i'm doing is wrong, then i will also stop working on my Thief Kart Project
Reasons:
i cant release this like a normal fan mission.
i had to do modifications to the exe file and the engine itself to make things possible.
so what else should i do to keep this game close to the game that it's associated with?
@admin, delete this thread if you want or need to...
