I was going to shut it down, but that seemed somewhat petty since it was directed at me. Then it turned into magic and the guy went away. It'll fall off eventually (the thread, not the penises. Except for Maly's) so it's just a temporary thing anyway. I don't see anyone new coming here anytime soon anyway, but old members dropping in will be sure to get a laugh out of it. I wonder if I should ban the alt-nick account too so it's apparent that the user was banned if some new person clicks on the thread. Just thinking out loud here.

Its interesting, I was just getting all nostalgic the other day for this place and I was trying to figure out why I don't come here much anymore. We had a discussion about it at work (online communities in general) and I think part of it is that as I've gotten older (I'm 30 btw, not old I guess but a personal best), I have a lot less of a drive to try to find like-minded people and communities. Somehow when I was younger I definitely craved being part of a group a lot more and making a personal connection with a person or people on the internet was a big draw. I am also better at interacting with my physical community than I used to be, which is probably part of what made online communities so appealing at the time and less appealing now.
I do miss it though, when I look back over the years and different online communities (mostly here and tribes 2), I feel the same towards people I used to interact with online as real life friends that I've drifted away from. It might be even more melancholy because I could much more easily reconnect with past real life friends.
I can definitely get on the sick-of-facebook bandwagon though. I have actually been feeling the itch to start conversations on FB on a few topics but it is so poorly suited to it I can't hardly bring myself to bother. Maybe commchat is just the right place :)

I like your post Bear. Keep up the maturity. I am 52 going on 53 soon. I used to be similar to you, but now crave a little more useless impractical interaction with people. I work from home. My wife works from home. 99% of our friends have moved away. We are lazy and do not make new friends, or if we try, the prospectives are really funny about being friends. This story could go on forever and that is not my point. I understand and empathize with your situation. Just be you. Just be true to yourself and love life. Enjoy.
For me, I come around here now and observe mostly. I do not chat much anymore. Some did not like me. That is their right. I bet most of those have me on ignore. OK, whatever. It matters not. But, if you have buddies here that you used to chat a lot with and had great times… then go for it and re-connect… even for a few days or weeks.
In general, related to this overall topic, the "dick" posts did not turn me off at all. And no they did not turn me on either. No pics. No turn on. Duh? Kidding… Jr.High (middle school) humor. Funny, silly, stupid, and male. If any new comer came along and was dissuaded from progressing further… well f-him. I am still here. Posting infrequently, but still here. I check in every other day or so to see what is new.
