If there's going to be a religion discussion, maybe someone should split the thread.
The Bible is an interesting curio, but like most religious texts, doesn't require the actual existence of a deity to explain how it came to be, so for parsimony, the onus of evidence of such a thing is very much on the person claiming its existence.

Tony, we haven't met. I'm fett. My backpack has jets.
Religious discussion elsewhere? Yes. Yawn.

So, for those of you who understand Facebook better than I do: why have I been getting lots of friend requests from users with female names and profile pics that make them look like they're 16 and wearing push-up bras? Is this some weird catfish thing, or all they all Putin trolls trying to legitimise their fake accounts? Inquiring minds want to know (without befriending fake sexy teens)!

It's a scam (No!!! Really ??? Aargh!!) The typical setup is to friend, then buddy, then hit up for $$ for emergency, then try for more $$$. Pretty lame.
On the plus side, it's great to see this place is still going on :D

But why has this not been happening for the last, oh, five years or so, and now it's suddenly happening every 1-2 days?
Pyrian on 20/2/2016 at 20:16
It's not happening to my Facebook account; maybe you got on some kind of list somewhere?
PigLick on 21/2/2016 at 09:43

If it helps, I'll send you some of those duckfaced, cleavage-obsessed teens. I don't have much use for them.

I occasionally get a fried request from random "people" with attractive profile pics, whose friend list consists solely of men - I even recognised the photo of one as a stock photo once, so I assume it's either a spam network, or it's a like-farming exercise.

I take breaks from TTLG like I take breaks from Facebook. I still prefer to be an observer and commentator rather than a down and dirty in the trenches debater; although, this does not lead to a whole lot of closeness between myself and people of either the forums or FB. I do enjoy reading the conversations and I truly respect the bejeezus out of the bulk of TTLG'ers and Taffers. I joined TTLG to be able to learn more about creating Thief missions, and long before that simply for playing the amazing fan missions which spawned from this community.
This community has been a part of my life ever since I finished playing Thief: the Dark Project for the first time and asked myself "Is there more out there?". It would be difficult for me to imagine the Thief franchise without ever having had the existence of this community, it is a living breathing reminder of what once was. I say living and breathing because it's not gone, just sleeping on it's death bed, but hopefully we can continue to try and breathe new life into it over time. Many of us seem to come back here on occasion looking for inspiration, to discuss games old and new, or nostalgia for the old days.
On the subject of scaring away new members... Even though I consider myself to be an "old lurker", I registered on TTLG much later. Speaking as a new poster, (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142720&page=2&p=2247641&viewfull=1#post2247641) from experience by the way, it's not necessarily nice to be fucked with a rake. Hazing appears to be part of saying "If you're one of us, then you can take it"; whether you care to sling it back is another matter, a personal one much like religion, but speaking as an old lurker I should not have expected anything less than a bat wrapped with barbed wire.
I have so much more to say, but the more I do the more it fails to describe just how I feel about this place. No matter how I feel about the forum, I make it a point to drift back in here when I have time to do so.
