Okay, so has he gone off topic or is he expecting too much of us to tolerate or what exactly?
See my post on the last page about the stuff the guy said.
Basically he seems to have a notion that TTLGers should be able to accept, not just tolerate, about any screwed up idea that may find its way into to his head and come out in a messy torrent.

Oh, okay. Well, I do understand his point of view, but I am certainly not going to expect everyone to accept it and agree with it. If that really
is the case, then there's no way that's going to happen. Even Christian scholars can't seem to agree with each other about vague, gray areas in the Bible and often times churches split into denominations because of their own interpretations of a vague scripture or scriptures that conflict with the other's interpretation.

Convict, if schools aren't supposed to teach children 'progressive' values or bombard them with progressive opinions, then what the hell is the purpose of the school system? Would you rather it be a circle-jerk, with everyone sitting in the past, rather then considering the possibility that the past/present was/is wrong?

We just have an expectation of cogent, consistent, reasoned opinions that have some basis in fact.
What the hell? When did this start? There's fuck all about it in the official forum guidelines, I'll tell you that much!
I miss the old days...:(

The problem is that teenagers are impressionable and teachers, as Prime Minister Howard said, are "indoctrinating" students with their "progressive" political views. How would you like it if Canadian teachers started trying to indoctrinate Canadian students with conservative views?

Is progressive another dirty word now? Like "liberal" and "elite".

When a teacher says "The Sisters of Mercy are great", the first thing his class does is:
(a) Rush out and buy
Floodland(b) Say 'lol old persons music'
(c) Ignore the fuck out of him
Where the hell did you go to school that teenagers gave any credit whatsoever to a teacher's personal life/views/interests?
Let's be honest, you're actually upset because the school syllabus doesn't say HOMOSEX IS WRONG YOU'LL GO TO HELL. Look dude, that school system is never going to exist because it would be incurably insane on roughly 57 different levels. Being gay is fine, the world has moved on.
Beyond that I'm actually pretty perplexed about what "progressive" values are on the happy train to indoctroland. Or, conversely, what kind of "conservative" values could be ZAPPED INTO THE MIND in the reverse situation. Business studies courses are already pretty upbeat on the whole free market capitalism angle, economics will probably not focus on the wonders of a centralised state system; history generally regards far-right (and, indeed, far-left) stuff like fascism, apartheid, Stalinism with the contempt it deserves so ... where are we going with this?
We learnt all about the fabulous world of condoms--I guess that's promoting promiscuity or something, yeah? Well, that accounted for about an hour of my entire school career. Possibly two hours at the most. HARDCORE INDOCTRINATION.

You completely missed the entire goddamn point. I sometimes wonder where we'd be, if education didn't, I don't know, focus on progressive ideas, and instead plonk down with the THIS IS HOW WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE THINGS THIS IS HOW THEY WILL ALWAYS BE DONE. For Pete's sakes, we probably wouldn't have crawled out of our caves.
