South Dakota abortion ban. Thoughts? - by fett

Oh come on Cookie Boy. Even most 'normal' religious people don't think that way (I'll give you the 'no sex before marriage" part). Don't forget the Judaic frame of reference for Christian thinking on pre-marital sex. Yet, some of the most common marriage counseling I've heard in christian circles consists of, "Have sex ALOT." Even the majority of educated Bible teachers these days proclaim sex as one of the most imporant parts of marriage that deepens the relationship - which is a pretty clear teaching from the NT (Paul telling married couples not to abstain for very long because it's bad for the relationship - and to 'serve' each other in the marriage bed). I was actually suprised to see recent statistics on sexual fulfillment between church goers and non-church goers. Probably a bit subjective though... I've personally found 5 new sex positions described in the Song of Solomon alone (pix to follow) - and most religious people are at least vaguely aware that the contents of that book are graphically sexual, as are most of the analogies concerning Christ and 'his bride' (the church).
BTW - you know why most Baptists don't believe in pre-marital sex?

I can tell you, no one in the pro-life camp has looked far enough down the road past the Holy Grail of overturning Roe v. Wade to ask, "Uh....now what do we do with all these unwanted babies and single moms...?" That's when everyone will get to see what's what.
Good point, fett.
Perhaps those pro-lifers should be encouraged to take a long hard look right now. Orphanages are overcrowded & underfunded. People in poverty stricken areas continue to give birth to one child after another even though those families are living a hand to mouth existences as it is. Yeah, let's bring another couple hundred thousand unwanted babies into this world. Only from now on, let's make those very same pro-lifers be
personally responsible for those babies, financially, morally, etc., from birth until those kids are old enough to strike out on their own.
P.S. And what page does the Song of Solomon start on?

And most of these things go on in neighborhoods where there are at least 4-5 churches that have the resources to deal with these things. I don't think the intentions are evil, there's just a real disconnect between dogma and dollars. There are some good people out there trying to meet these needs in real ways and the sad part is that if things go in the conservative direction, the folks who perpetuate it will continue to do nothing, while the ones who really are concerned will be even more overloaded than they already are.

The emotional trauma that women gor through after an abortion reveals the fact that we are not talking about losing tissue here.
I know women who have felt only great relief after an abortion, even years or decades afterwards. Believe or not, some women really, honestly, deep down do not want children (nor experience pregnancy). Those women also take good care of contraception, but so far there isn't any method that's 100% reliable.
In my opinion, if a woman even suspects she might have regrets, she should not have an abortion.

... most 'normal' religious people ... the majority of educated Bible teachers
We're not talking about the most or the majority, though are we? We never are. These things, these debates and acrimonious slingings, they are ALWAYS the result of a minority of loud extremists whose views hardly ever coincide with the "normal" or "majority" anything. Christians don't even have a lock on that... it's the way things are with everything from Danish Cartoons to Erosion of Civil Rights to AAAH WAAAAAH to everything else. The plain truth is that the vast majority of normal people don't say or do anything to block the nutbars because they honestly can't belive that a rational society would allow the crackpots to influence policy. Because a) they're so few in number and b) most of what they say is extreme and patently absurd.
But guess what? If there's a basketball game between you and a cripple, and you don't show up because you think "what the fuck, he's not really going to go through with this, is he?" then you're going to lose by default. And then you find out that the new way involves a very difficult set of obstacles to calling a rematch.

Exactly! It's only a small minority! Like 1% of all Christians, so we shouldn't put down these people as a whole. As a defender of Justice, I just wanted to clear that up.

I think you missed the point.

Nah, I got the point. I just wanted to throw in a snide remark on StD's behalf.

So true... probably the most ridiculous president we've had thus far.
As far as abortion goes, it's not the government's place to decide for someone. That's bringing religion into politics, and we all know where that leads. But, it's basically the decision of the government, not the people, because the people have been controlled like mindless sheep. Few realize that we, as the people, have the ability, the right, and more importantly the obligation to override this faulty government if we see fit. Otherwise, it's not a people's nation as it was supposed to be.
