I'm very sorry if this HAS been answered, definitively. I've searched around quite a bit, and I may be selectively blind, but...
Is there a way to extract the *.ogg's right from the discs? I do not have a computer I can install TDS onto (the ones available are either too outdated or ask for an administrator's password). I own the three-disc set. Am I out of luck?
Is this the best forum to post this on?
A "negatory" will mean that I just have to wait until I can afford a newer system--which I can resign myself to--and that the Encyclopaedia Project will be lacking some TDS info--unless someone else can bring their knowledge on board the project.
Thank you kindly.:)

In theory you could extract the SchemaMetafile*.csc files from the cab files on the CDs using an archive utility, then use (
http://www.ttlg.com/wiki/index.php?title=Useful_T3Ed_Utilities) SoundDrone to extract the files. Even if you can't play the game, can't you install it just to get to the csc files?

Nope. Like I said: "I do not have a computer I can install TDS onto (the ones available are either too outdated or ask for an administrator's password)."
If you know of an archive utility that will do it, I will see if I can use it. I only have ZipCentral and WinRAR, at this time. They won't do the trick. Thanks for the response, though.

It sounds, that you need an InstallShield decompressor (icomp.exe or a similar tool). But I have no idea, where you can get this stuff.

Does it refuse to install on older computers? My computer is fine so I've never come across this, obviously. If you're looking for a specific file or files, let me know and I'll put them up for download.

It should install fine on older computers, just won't be able to play it, but if all you need are the sounds...install it and then use the sound extractors to get them.

The problem with the older computers available to me is that I have a maximum of 500 MB's on one, but need an administrator's password. I have less than 400 MB's on two others and even if I had more, the setup software refuses to let me install, period, 'cause it can't find required hardware/software.
My MAJOR goal is to extract ALL movies, briefings, texts, and sounds, and then burn them off onto CD's. This way, I'll have access to the information MOST OF THE TIME, on most computers, so I can continue my work on the Encyclopedia.
 I MAY be getting a chance to use a newer system without administrative blocks THIS WEEK, so I'll post here if I need further assistance. Thanks for the help, everybody! And GlasWolf, I'll get back with you, for sure, if my opportunity falls through.:thumb:

Maybe a pain in the ass, and perhaps more than you want to spend. but maybe install to a USB key?
Then Maybe you can just throw away all the gunk you don't need, then run SoundDrone to cut the schema's open in the space.
I don't know where you are, but you can get 2Gb sticks for about £30 around here.

Interesting idea, Ziemanskye... hmmm....
Like I told Glaswolf, I'll see if my other option works, and post back here either way.:thumb:

You could probably also get an 80gig hard drive for relatively cheap these days too.
