Well, I've got it managed to run UW. Mouse and Soundblaster drivers are set up and both work in other games. However, the Soundblaster doesnt work in UW. I've copied the contents of the CD to my HD, did the install and the UW-sound setup - it reports the soundcard correctly. but when I start the game, it says: EMS allocated, Soundsystem could not be initialized (or something like that). The other thing I found was that the installation routine says that I have 0 MB disk space free, which is - needless to say - not correct. So whats wrong here? Thanks for the help

I have no idea about the sound, I have similar problems with my card, so I just run it in windows but as for the disk space thing, I'd guess you have more than 2gb free, so when it asks how much space you have it gets a number back that's bigger than it was expecting (and capable of recieving), so it assumes your computer is lying and guesses you have 0.

It sounds like you copied the files to your HD the lazy way, which has resulted in files bieng designated as read-only. You need to change the appropriate files to archive. To do all the files and folders in your UW directory, in a DOS box type:
attrib -r +a c:\uw /s
This assumes that your folder is called UW.

How exactly did you get the game to run in Windows? (I have the same problem)
Airbag_Victim on 23/8/2001 at 01:29
Yes, I did check out the FAQ at stygianabyss.com on how to run it with a boot disk, but that didn't work at all with my comp. I have windows 98 if that helps anything.

Although I don't enjoy doing the whole "bump" routine, I would like to have my question answered. I've been unsuccesfully trying to get this game going with sound for at least a year now.

What error message, if any, are you getting, Airbag_Victim? What is it that won't work? Is it only your sound, or is it the whole game? It would help if you could give us a little more info.

Well, like I said, I have the same problem as the other guy.. I get no sound. I try using bootdisks, but that never seems to help any (does dammage if anything). So, I'm just wondering if there is a way to run it in windows. If not, then I'll just have to live without sound then.

eg. What soundcard etc? Does it support emulation?
Airbag_Victim on 25/8/2001 at 13:05
It's called a "rockwell audio device". It's actually a modem/sound card combo that came with my computer (Hewlett Packard). I figure that's why I have such trouble getting the thing to work, since it's not your average sound card. I'm pretty sure it supports emulation, I can get games like system shock 1 to work with sound and all..but I don't know if that's the same thing as getting UW to run with sound. Sorry if I'm being vague.
