I have no clue. I set up my bootdisc correctly (see my other postings) and it works fine with System Shock. However, it get no sound in UW and UW2. The soundcard setup works fine (uwsound.exe reports that the card is detected) but when I start uw.exe it reports: EMS allocated . Soundsystem initialization failed.
Any ideas anybody?

Its probably a better idea to keep your related posts within the same thread as people who are having similar problems can see the solutions evolve.

The error message is due to a memory issue and is very easily fixed. Please post a copy of your autoexec.bat and config.sys files here. Also, while you are in pure DOS (via the bootdisk), at the C: prompt please type:

mem /c > uwmem.txt

Then, when you are back in windows, open up uwmem.txt in a text editor and post its contents here. Please let us know what you are doing every step of the way, as it makes it easier to fix any problems :)

Oh well, looks like last time I hit the wrong button. Anyway.
How the hell am I supposed to figure out that I have a memory problem when the game reports something about sound system? But you were right. I started the computer without CD-Rom and keyboard drivers and stuff and it worked.
So I started to look for the problem and here we go: None of the drivers were located in the upper memory. I figured that emm386 must cause this problem. The original line in my config.sys was:
device=emm386.exe 1024 ram
I started everything without the switches: the drivers were now located in the upper memory but I had no EMS. I looked for the switches emm386.exe has to offer - they are quite different from the ones back in the old DOS days. Now I only have ON OFF AUTO.
I started tried each one of them, but the only thing that happens is that I get the following error message (free translation from German...)
Base adress for memory frame not located. Press button...
And here I'm stuck. But I guess I will figure this one out as well.

Didn't you get the config.sys file that I sent you? Anyway, I've just finished making an FAQ/Boot Disk guide which I will post up at (
