Souls and constant effects. - by Munkilord

Exactly what kind of charged soul gem is required to be able to enchant with a constant effect? I have a grand soul gem with a winged twilight soul and I can't choose the constant effect on the enchant screen.
How do you people afford paying for enchanting? Is there someone who does it for cheap or is my level 19 guy just to poor at this point to afford any of that.
I've been trying to sell the Lords Mail and make some cash for an enchantment, but I can't find a merchant who can offer me a deal thats worth it. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance...

You need a grand soul gem containing at least a golden saint (which is worth 80,000).

Good question. So far I've only enchanted a ring of light for 2000.

Sell it in exchange for cash
and items. Sell those items to a different merchant or rest for 24 hrs so the merchant gets his money back.
Or do what I do and stash all the expensive stuff and complain about lack of money...
I would like to able to pay for enchantments by bartering.

You can do it yourself, just drag a soul gem onto your character and the enchant interface would pop up. You'd have to major in Enchant though, cos at low level, you can't make shit with it. So far I have done dozens of enchanted items: weapons, amulets and rings that does everything from soul trapping to opening doors to fortifying strength.

Thanks guys. Does anyone know where I can find a mage that sells a Soul trap spell? I've been searching for one.

I'm pretty sure one of the mages in the Mage Guild in Balmora sells Soul Trap

Here ya go: for money follow these easy steps:
1) get a soul trap spell
2) look for/buy/steal soul gems (empty)
3)summon a beastie/go hunting & Cast soul trap on your victim.
4) slay them, and sell off the ones you don't need (like I get around 9k per Storm Atronach)...
P.S. there are "free" soul gems on a book shelf in the Caldera Mage's guild. no one there seems to sell them, so don't worry about snatching them. I think you may have to be high rank in the guild to ge them though.
hope that helps....

There are also free potions, scrolls, and gems in the Mages equipment chest by the entrance door to all mage guilds -- if your a member. And, if your a member of the fighters guild, they give you free stuff as well. I surprized I haven't seen anyone post about this free stuff before. Also, they will restock the equipment chest every month or so. Don't quote me on it because I'm not sure the exact time when the chests are restocked. I usually sell the scrolls & potions and keep the lesser gems for practice on lesser creatures. :)

Can someone just explain something about enchanting for me -
If i enchant my sword with absorb health say 1-50, on touch, what does the duration represent?
If i don't set the duration to 1 will the sword work?
Does the duration in this case represent how many times the enemy takes 1-50 damage in a single hit e.g. if duration is set to 2 the enemy would take 2, 1-50 damage per hit?
Sorry if this seems a stupid question.

Duration represents time in seconds how long does the spell lasts. Example, if you enchant item 30-30 absorb health, duration 3, cast it on an enemy and it will do 30 damage every second for 3 seconds(90 damage).hope you understand what I mean
