Probably already have a soul in them. An empty grand soul gem is worth more then one with a lesser soul in it, ect, ect. Hovering over the gem should show you if it's empty, or if it's already occupied.

I've noticed that some of the filled soul gems in my inventory have different values assigned to them, even though they are the same type of gem and have the same level of soul in them. For example I have two lesser gems with a soul level of "lesser", but one is worth 100 while the other is worth 150.

Probably has to do with the fact that they now have different models for the same item. So you have two pretty soul gems, but one may be bigger than the other or, atleast, differently shaped. Like how all the bones are called 'Bones' but are actually different bits of a person.

Plus, it's also a matter of the soul in the gem as well isn't it?
