hey, could ANYone tell me what exactly a soul gem is, and what or how they work?
So far ive gathered that soul gems can be used to recharge magical weapons etc. fair enough, but HOW do i recharge them? ive got about 10 grand soul gems and i have no idea what to do with them or how to use them.
i also have a few soul gems which evidently have the soul of a creature in them; one is an ogrim, and i have a couple of others. what exactly do THEY do, and how would one go about "trapping" a soul into a gem in the first place? and what exactly would capturing different souls achieve (ie, would a flame atronarch soul gem do some kinda fire thingee-whatsit? i dont even know what im talking about now!)
also.... i met a woman on the way out of Ald Rhun who wishes to go to the Ghostgate Shrine, shes a rather moody (must be that time of the.....month....if they have months)
her directions arent that clear and ive searched everywhere i can think of, ive been right to the top of the mountain, around the top, here there and everywhere
cheerzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

When replying to my post please take a second to tell me just how far into the game (your level) you are before asking this question.
Soul Gems -
These are stones which can hold the soul of a creature for the purpose of making or recharging an enchanted item.
A soul gem is useless unless it is filled with a soul.
To catch a soul you must have A. an empty soul gem in your inventory and B. the soul trap spell.
Cast soul trap on the creature and then kill it; upon the creature's death you will receive a message saying you have captured a soul.
You cannot soul trap Npcs.
There are different kinds of soul gems which have different capacities. Generally the more dangerous a creature is the more powerful the soul is and as such requires a better gem to capture.
The stronger the soul the larger amount of magika reserves the enchanted item will have when you make it using the gem.
To create constant effect items you must have either a golden saint or assended sleeper's soul in a grand soul gem.
To put an enchantment on an item you must first have the spell which has the desired affect.
The type of creature you soul trap does not restrict you in what enchantment you can pladce on an item e.g. your fire atronach example.
Ok i can't be bothered to say any more than that as this subject is not only covered in the manual that comes with the game (tried reading that?) but also on MANY other threads.
