If I was less lazy I'd screenshot some google streetview pics of I-80 between here and Vacaville, it's a pothole filled piece of junk. (They're not as big, but they're deep as shit and you're going freeway speeds so they don't need to be very big.) And we don't even have the excuse of snow and freezing temps every winter!

This is what happens when the State looks for the lowest bidder, and then doesn't require the contractor to guarantee their work--you get roads that fall apart within a couple of years and then remain under constant reconstruction.
Thanks Engler! We are still paying for your administration (and lack thereof).

I used to visit the So Cal desert for work and we used to race to see whose rental car had the highest governed top speed. I'm not sure if I'd try that on the 5 though, don't they have speed enforcement in the valley?
Queue - If the road bed wasn't properly constructed, you'll have to keep repaving forever. We have that problem on a few sections of interstate in MA.

When I went to Bodie and back, I raced the car on the washboard and went rallye-style as fast as I could to minimize vibrations.
Desert dirt-road with no-one around, no radar no cops, it was fantastic. Nothing better to make you feel like Kowalski in
Vanishing Point for a few minutes
The car was total...ly ok afterwards
