Are you kidding? Swooping was one of the best features of Thief 4.
For getting through the game as quickly as possible. Yes. ;) lol

building a new game with a modern engine like Unreal (which this likely is, since Metro Awakening is).
Should be able to tell from the Developer Direct video above, they are looking at the game thru the editor at the 16:16 mark. Can't tell myself, but someone said it was Unity (but not sure if that's accurate or not).

Pretty sure the movement in this one will be all swooping (aka teleport) unless you can stomach smooth locomotion.

I wonder what the percentage is of VR players who use teleport vs smooth. I made an effort to get used to smooth turning/locomotion when I first started, and it feels fine to me now although I do kinda like when games give you the option to do both simultaneously, like Vertigo 2 or Light Brigade. I still can't do flight or roller coaster games without getting a little dizzy, though.

I can't picture a Thief game in VR where teleporting movement would work. Seems like it would make things way too easy when avoiding/escaping guards.

Would probably need a cooldown timer on the teleport ability (when in the presence of guards), but even so, yeah... it wouldn't be great. But I don't think shipping an exclusively smooth locomotion game is an option, given how many players get nauseous from it. I'm fine with it when playing seated(that's how I played through Alyx and Batman).
But there's still room for this to do a bunch of things that we know work great in VR:
-bows.
-pick pocketing. Seriously, pickpocketing feels so much more tense when you're physically reaching out to pluck something from a guard's belt without alerting them.
-climbing. I wish TDS climbing gloves would make a return for this one. Climbing is one form of VR movement which doesn't cause nausea AND it feels great. The VR stealth game Unknightly had a big climbing focus, and it was one the best parts of that game.

The reason I like T1 & T2 is that even though the setting is dank and gloomy, it still has some colour, texture and personality in its art style. I know that some limitations are due to the tech of the time, but the fact that it is dark without being DARK adds a lot to the atmosphere and allows you took around and take in the environment properly
Modern games with a dark and gritty setting are..... way too dark and gritty and I guess different settings and art styles blend into each other making them less unique.
Heh. Somehow Im reminded of the hate that TDS got at the time and now, just like the Star Wars prequels, people are a lot more forgiving of TDS when looking back after the absolute dumpster fires that were THiaf and Eps 7,8 and 9

TDS has benefitted from community updates which has brought it more in line with the original games. It still has issues but having the levels stitched back together, briefing videos added back in and some other bug fixes really helped to improve the overall game. To play it out of the box though, it's still a bit of a mess.
