I'm playing Metro: Awakening, another Vertigo joint, and damn if the stealth sections don't feel distinctly Thiefy. I know Vertigo is the publisher, not the dev, in this case, but presumably they can provide tech and assistance. If Thief VR turns out as good as Metro (that is to say, scaled-back but well-crafted) I'll be happy.

I will keep my fingers crossed for the vr version, although I don't own any set (yet?). For what it may look, it's possible they are probing the market for a next proper Thief instalment.

There are some games which add support for non-vr version after a awhile. I do hope Vertigo could make it.

Doing that with a NuThief2, and a VR version at that, would be one of the worst ways to probe the market for a "next proper Thief installment', imo

Little preview of Thief VR -- doesn't really say much except that it takes place between thiefs 3 and 4, but there is a nice message from Stephen Russell, who is real and not AI. Starts at 13:16.

Just watched this too. They are saying all the right things so far. Definitely looking forward to seeing the final product.
FWIW, one of the guys did say this takes place centuries before Thief 2014, so we can throw most of that game's lore out the window.

The development team sound very genuine in their intent. I truly hope this turns out to be a far better Thief game than what we were given in 2014. Cautiously optimistic. So wonderful to hear from Stephen. I never thought we would be so blessed as to hear his Garrett again.

Get the game alone just for Stephen as Garrett. Nab those voice lines, new FM anyone.

Takes place centuries before Thi4f, but looks exactly like Thi4f?
Tbh, when I first saw the trailer it looked so much like Thi4f I just assumed Eidos Montreal gave them all the buildings, sets, architecture and other assets to work with and tweak a little... and that was why it was labeled a 'collaboration' with EM. Oh well, maybe there's more to it. The vibe is clearly T4, so I can't help but recoil when I see the visuals
I bet T1/T2 could be made VR easily these days for a tiny percentage the cost of making NuThief2.0. Since it wouldn't look cool enough on PS5 or PS6 for the Marketing team, though, it's a tough sell. Some past discussion on the VR topic:

T1/T2 VR would actually get me to buy a VR headset. NuThief2.0 doesn't.
The devs sound excited and passionate. I'm glad they're enjoying it and getting paid for Thief work. Unfortunately, I remember much passion with 'swoop' and the abolishment of 'bunny-hopping' for Thief 2014, though, too, so dev passion doesn't always translate to an amazing Thief game.
I wish Stephen Russell could do more Thief work, and I wonder if he'd be willing to authorize his Garrett voice for AI re-creation someday, like if/when he's ready to retire... for both official Thief games and community fan missions. It's clear he could do this for a long time and probably wants to, so I hope whoever has the Thief IP puts the pedal to the metal and starts making some true Thief games.

Are you kidding? Swooping was one of the best features of Thief 4. I too would prefer an art style closer to the originals, but at this point I'll take what I can get. Also, Thief 4 could look beautiful at times.
And based on what little I know of VR development, I don't think porting over a 25-year-old engine to modern VR would be easier than building a new game with a modern engine like Unreal (which this likely is, since Metro Awakening is). Maybe if Nightdive ever ports the originals to their engine, then we could see.
