For those who worry about the VR stuff.
Don't worry. A mod that allows you to play on PC will probably come - eventually.
After all, this is the only way I was able to play Half-Life : Alyx.

Thief 2014 got less than 50% right... far less.
I don't agree with that. There were clearly a lot of talented developers on that team. It seems obvious to me (and it's backed up by(
https://youtu.be/aqN-C5pWyYQ?si=nOghtwJcepW3wPgO) interviews with devs) that the project's failure was from mismanagement, namely the publisher insisting that it adhere to certain AAA expectations that didn't suit the franchise alongside a rotating door of project leads.
But in any case, this is a different dev team, different publisher. We don't know the extent of Eidos Montreal's involvement but regardless of how you feel about 2014, having an experienced dev providing support is a good thing.
Giving a niche franchise a high budget and expecting it to do good sales while still pleasing the fanbase is exactly what got us 2014 in the first place. Vertigo/Maze Theory are basically indie devs, so there won't be that weight of expectation, and the result could be a lot more interesting.

To be fair, Thief 2014 had some moments that were ok. But only a few. The main issue remains that the setting is just uninspired and bland. So not the best base for a new game.

I don't agree with that either. I think the setting is fine, the characters are interesting at a base level, and the art design is cohesive and atmospheric. It's a good foundation for a Thief game. But then they set up a bunch of interesting plot threads that never resolved, didn't develop their characters, and shoehorned in a lot of of-the-moment AAA tropes that didn't fit in an immersive sim. And it's true that the AI was underdeveloped. But in terms of style (art, animation, sound) it was pretty polished. It still has some of my favourite first person movement. People may complain about the hands, but they work properly, they don't glitch, and they're clearly skillfully animated. If Eidos Montreal can impart any of that, I'm all for it.

Thi4f wasn't any worse than the Deus Ex prequels, but for some reason those received a better reception.

Well, to each his own. But IMO this setting is just bleak, standard run-down city, yeah, so what now. Which characters are interesting? Didn´t find any of them close to that. Even the antagonists are bland. I mean, what is this Thief Taker General? A crippled guy who barely can walk but is feared by most, even including his man he sometimes kills for fun. Even more bland than a villain from a Fast & Furios movie. Truart was also corrupt, but at least he cared for his underlings.
For me some of the few redeeming moments were some levels. The mansion of the Baron is ok, the asylum despite the flaws too. And killing via shooting arrows into enemies throat was fun.
I wouldn´t have minded the hands so much if we didn´t have one with a bloodied bandage for over half of the game.

does it include "holy button"(ctrl+alt+shift+del)?

Oh hell yeah. I have been looking for a reason to turn on my Index other than replaying Half Life Alyx for the 3rd time. Lets hope this is the next "Reason to get VR title" because nothing since Alyx has scratched that itch.

they better make a first person version for pc, please
question then becomes is this a part 2 of the reboot? or a new telling of thief with a girl and garrett?, or could it be thief4 continued storyline? so 3 possible options
i got no idea
I'm thinking it's going to be a direct continuation of the original trilogy. Besides fingering around the painting from Thi4f, they hopefully learned important lessons since 2014. I also hope they are leaving some spooks in the game to surprise us and not reveal it all in the trailer.

Did anyone here ever try "ROGAN: The Thief in the Castle" VR game on Steam? It only has "Mixed" reviews, but thought I'd mention in case anyone wasn't aware of its existence. If you played it, I wonder what you thought. I've never played it since I don't have VR.
At least its colors are rich, and are more than just hazy de-saturated blues, oranges, and browns everywhere
Here's a trailer for "ROGAN: The Thief in the Castle":

"[TVR:LoS]
marks the long-awaited return of the legendary Thief franchise.
Fans of the original series will feel right at home, while newcomers will experience the thrill of stealth and heists in a fresh new light."
I don't think I quite imagined this as the return I've long-awaited multiple decades for, lol
