I'm not giving Eidos Montreal a free pass but you have to keep in mind Thi4f was published by Square Enix, who were/are famously, let's say, not very bright. I'm 100% convinced almost all of the blunders in the reboot are their doing in the first place, and they're not here for this new title so... maybe it'll be better?

Amazingly, the Thief universe is still with us after, what, 27 years? If it wasn't for fan missions, I don't think TTLG would even exist. But that longevity is based primarily on T1 and T2. Subsequent Thief titles more or less crushed the notion of fan-made content; a result of the tools becoming too complicated and legal departments ensuring the unwashed masses get only as close as the cash register.
I had high hopes of Thief 2014 offering up a suite of tools allowing us grunts to move up a few rungs on the creativity ladder. I even extracted all of the textures and objects, hoping that would happen. All it got me was a lot of tedium and a sizeable chunk of real estate taking up space on a hard drive.
On the issue of technology, the PS5 rules the VR world, hands down. Even having only one eye, I may still "invest" in a PS5/VR2; cheaper than buying one of nVidia's GPUs.

... but it's still Eidos Montreal's grimdark, charmless, misguided take on Thief. They fundamentally misunderstood or messed up almost everything that made the originals special, from sound & level design to the writing and worldbuilding. Hearing Stephen honestly made me more sad than excited. Don't drag him back into this IP exhumation.
Word!
Also, maybe it´s just a suspicion, but maybe they altered his voice with AI to make it sound younger? When he voiced Corvo in Dishonored 2 he was recognisable but then he played a 50 year old protagonist, which kinda fitted.
Also not sure, Magpie? Wow, such a innovative name *sarc*
I mean, if they would have made another installment with Erin as protagonist, it would have kinda made sense, that she survived the end. But this? Nah.
Also not sure about VR. I haven´t tried it yet, maybe it´s great, maybe it makes me seasick. At least I hope it is really immersive and not just showing disembodied hands floating.

I was extremely disappointed by the reboot, but he reboot actually had some bits that I thought were properly thiefy -- those side missions with Lenny, for example. To me, it seemed like there had been some people working on it who knew their stuff at least at some point, but executive decisions and development hell shaped it into the setpiece-driven PR disaster that it was.
I'm not even holding out hope for an immersive sim any more, but if they somehow managed to get the characters, the story and level design right, there might be a stealth game worth playing someday for reasons other than just being an interesting failure.

I did legitimately get chills hearing Stephen Russell's Garrett voice again.
This. The devs are smart enough to get that right. Otherwise, VR in its current state blows goats. That being said, this is something aspiring to be Thief who's creators are wise enough to bring SR on board (hopefully), so it bears observation at the least.

I can't help but be excited for this. I've wanted Thief in VR for pretty much ever. Vertigo has a solid VR track record, and say what you will about Eidos Montreal, but they've made a lot of good games, and they almost got it right with Thief 2014. So bring it on!
Thief 2014 got less than 50% right... far less.

As if Thi4f wasn't bad enough, they double-down and pour a bunch of money into a VR version 11 years later instead of making a true Thief I/II sequel. Nice. The Thief IP holders sure know what it takes to make good Thief games. RIP Embracer Group
PS: I love how we went from needing to make body awareness and 3rd person POV a thing "for immersion", to now just having weird disembodied hands floating around, lol.
Jenivere the Magpie is back. Wow, can't wait. Exactly what every Thief fan wants. I really hope sloop, swoop, Gloom, contextual jumping, rope arrow hot spots, and load zones for every window opened and zone traversed make a roaring comeback, too. (I can't believe I remember these things after more than a decade of not touching or looking at the game. They must have seared themselves into my brain.) Thi4f had so much to offer. 10 out of 10, for sure. I just hope he still has every rivet, stitch, and cloth on him to help him succeed at stealing. And that super stealthy, clunky, and cool Batman sheet metal bow gadget would be icing on the cake.
This is one game world I'm pretty sure I'll never visit again no matter what coat of paint is placed on it. Not even Stephen Russell or the voice that is trying to sound like the Shadowheart voice actress or actually is? can sway me.
Since Stephen Russel is voice acting in it, I guess they don't need him to do mocap like they, apparently, had to worry about him doing for the 2014 game.

Well, look what we have here...it's NuThief 2...Set once again in the corrupt NuThief Universe.
Unfortunately, the welcome addition of Stephen Russell will be tainted by the endless chatter of the Magpie protagonist…because Garrett, the right and true protagonist, will instead be diminished to a "soul trapped-in-eye artifact" supporting role for the Magpie Mary Sue.
After all of the years of negative feedback, one would have hoped that they dispensed with their corrupt "reimagining"...Yet sadly, they haven't learned or ever cared.
What a shame...It's just another one for the kidz, with the sugar-coated attraction of a beloved voice.

Yes, the world really needs NuThief II: THI4FVR
Combine this with the Thick As Thieves reveal, and wow, we are about to be spoiled as Thief I/II fans
