I think Aja hit the nail on the head, for anyone hoping for the next great chapter in the Thief universe, this probably won't be that. It's likely to be more of an expansion/DLC, which isn't to say it won't be good, but expectations should be tempered. Most VR games are going to run anywhere from 3-8 hours and often times will just try to properly convert the game's basic mechanics into a VR setting while telling some kind of side story. If we're talking about VR made for existing franchises, there have been some good ones (Half Life, Metro, Assassin's Creed, Batman, Vampire The Masquerade) but also quite a few bad ones.
I think the upside could be if the devs do a good job with it, that might raise awareness and interest in Thief, and could lead to a new full non-VR game (or maybe that's a bad thing for some!)

So much for us who lost an eye in the war. Can't play VR because of it. Besides, my wife would kill me for spending $500 for a VR system. I suppose the player will be forced to play as a female. :grr:

Probably the best deal at the moment is the Quest 3S. ~350€. Standalone, but you can also connect it to a PC and play Steam titles. When I bought mine half a year ago it came bundled with Batman: Arkham Shadow, probably the best VR stealth game at the moment, buuuut... I don't think that's bundled with the headset any more?

Yes, you must play while wearing a dress and high heels and full make-up. Only you, though.

Hard pass. VR isnt a bad idea for for a robbery sim, but it's still Eidos Montreal's grimdark, charmless, misguided take on Thief. They fundamentally misunderstood or messed up almost everything that made the originals special, from sound & level design to the writing and worldbuilding. Hearing Stephen honestly made me more sad than excited. Don't drag him back into this IP exhumation.
I wish Embracer would just give the IP over to Nightdive already.

God damn it - I find myself in the weird position of hoping that this will be rubbish!
I don't have the time, patience or money to learn to tolerate nu-Thief enough to actually play through THAT properly!
(I have attempted twice, and made very slow progress due to quick time events and the weird restrictions like "not jumping", fricking "rope arrow only targets" and dying if you touch water... which are the basic antithesis off theif.
(I barely tolerated The Deadly Shadows!)
Has anyone patched nu-Thief into... being half-way decent yet?
If this new game IS awesome enough - I assume I will have to play through nu-Thief 1, with it's weird "garrett but not garrett" and the annoying child sidekick.
Thankfully, I will be relying on the old guard still in these hallowed halls to let us know if this tantalising new title is actually worth while.
(and I do NOT look forward to finally having to care about VR or investing in VR kit - if this IS good (despite all it has going against it)... and it brings the number of "worthwhile" VR games up to.... what 4? (Portal? Batman? Halflife? ... - then it looks like i might have to find an extra £400 to get a VR headset (which will be obsolete in 3? 5? years time?).
Perhaps the switch 2 will have a cheap add on? And I can buy one of them instead? Any one giving odds on this nu-nu-Thief title being released on that shiny new thing eventually?
[Now back to the shadows - for another 10 years I shall lurk!]

To all the grumpy old men (and women) out there - you'll probably want to wait until some more info about the game is available before making any rash judgements.
Just because the game looks like Thief2014 doesn't mean it will play like that. Keep in mind this is being developed by a completely different company (2 of them in fact). Both of whom have made some good VR titles.
Trust me though, I get it. We were all mostly kicked in the nuts by E-M's version of Thief, but hopefully this won't be that.

I'm always happy to be proved wrong about things that look bad....but the logo is from THIEF 2014, the assets are 2014, the setting is 2014 (Baron Northcrest etc), and Stephen Gallagher, who oversaw the final 2014 product and is now Creative Director at EM, is the one giving press quotes about this game and its content.
I'm not holding out hope that it will feel like the Thief games of yore.
