Well, IMO lenses/optics are MUCH more important than LED/OLED. Pancake vs Fresnel they are just in different leagues optically. Pancake= no sweet spot- basically all FOV is clear, no god rays too. Black level in Q2/3 (LCD) is OK I think, it feels like black when in contrast with other content.
Not saying the optics are better on PSVR2 because the fresnel lenses are obviously worse, but the sensation of being in complete darkness with the OLED panels is pretty incredible. When it's a dark game and you've got a flashlight, the headset basically disappears. And on the other end, when a game properly supports HDR brightness, it's transformative. The first time the sunlight reflected off my windshield in Gran Turismo 7 in VR, I felt a physical sensation of warmth.
As for blurriness, it's clear at the centre of the lenses, and after using the headset for a while, I genuinely don't notice that the edges are blurry; my brain filters it out. Not saying I wouldn't prefer better edge-to-edge clarity, but I would have a hard time giving up the OLED.

star wars is a bad option to use as there is a set of books that predate the movies and i think cannon on those from books might be based loosely on them, but thief don't have a pre dating set of books
as far as i know no one from ion storm Austin, that also was part of looking glass original team worked with Montréal team so there is no way the story could be cannon
as far as the thief universe we know and love thief 3 was the final part as of now
thief 2014 = alt universe was said by one of the people who made it in a past interview "a retelling of thief" set in a alt universe and different timeline
now as far as the new thief vr that looks like another team made it from what tailor showed
so everyone understand what i am trying to say is simple thief 1/g/2/3 are the cannon i accept, anything after is not true cannon but a retelling = yes there is a lot that is similar as in names/etc, but the storyline it self is not part of the thief cannon i know and accept thief 1/g/2/3
yes this is still official thief games i agree to that same with 2014 but the storyline part is not
one day i hope we can get a continued story post thief 3 or maybe even a prequal to thief 1 kathra-din era/ precursors/etc
this is the same thing that happend to myst/riven series, there recent 2 games are not good compared if they would have kept the myst series going, obduction was a flop and firmament was worse, decades wasted

Are you directly quoting this person? Who said that it is set in an alternative universe and when did they say this?
The part you quoted just says "retelling". Nothing stops a "retelling" from taking place in a new future iteration of the City that has been built over the original games' City.
Although I would question how long before release this quote was made, as "retelling" seems an odd way to describe Thief 2014 to me (before we even get onto whether it is taking place in the future of the original or an alternative universe).
To me the "re" part of "retelling" would suggest that it follows the story of the first games to some degree, which of course it doesn't. So I wonder if this is a case of something that later got changed, such as extra XP for headshots etc.
Anyway, also in your post you say "so everyone understand what i am trying to say is simple thief 1/g/2/3 are the cannon i accept"
Maybe that "I accept" is the crux of this. You are not talking about official franchise canons as such? You are talking about the unofficial canons that would say something like 'only what George Lucas accepted as canon is the "true" Star Wars canon, irrespective of whatever the people he sold the franchise rights to later decide is official canon'?
People are certainly free to value any unofficial canon that they like over any official franchise canon. But I think the problem is that when people talk about canons, unless otherwise stated it is normal to assume that they are talking about the official canon rather than an unofficial but personally preferred one.

here is the quote for thief 2014 "Thief is a reboot for the long-running series starring master thief Garrett. In this reimagining of the original Thief game"
that is from a pre release version of a thief 2014 in description
nothing from that says cannon
but what do you think?

I think Thief 2014 went through so many story changes in its development that you wouldn't even be able to get the the whole dev team to agree on whether it's a retelling or a continuation.

For me, its another flop. We got such a brilliant media and nobody makes something good with it. Bow has arrow counter and oled screen, and its like compound bow? Guards have tags? You loot for score? Magpie?
WTF is going on? I was exited with 99% chance it will be as bad as 3 and 4 and seeing demos, it will be bad.
Its a slow pace game, why not make mechanics great? Why not have arrow tips on your belt which you have to put on arrows? Why not have a simple bow, a shaped hardwood blackjack? There is no need for sophistication in this game. Use haptics for lock picking. Gliph view? Why not just take out the eye and throw it around the corner to see like in T2? I rather they just worked on the mechanics, and redone DP and ME for VR.
Tech goes up, talent goes down.
If somehow Glass Studios got today's tech via timemachine, oh boy...

It changed direction so many times. They had no idea what it was. I think their final attempt to make peace with the fans in the final stretch was their spin that it was a continuation but several hundred years in the future, and history had a way of repeating itself. The city was built upon in layers, the crumbling old city foundations beneath it. None of that really felt authentic though because the game wasn't really designed to look that way. It was all made up in the later stages...a few classic easter eggs thrown in as connective tissue.
Originally it was a continuation or reimagining with Stephen as original Garrett but then they decided motion capture was somehow of vital importance and needed a voice actor who could do his own stunts for cut scenes...because THAT was the most important thing in a game like Thief. :erg::confused:

people can lip service what ever they think will help, but in the end it has nothing to do with thief 1/g/2/3 cannon
and before all that it was suppose to be a futuristic garrett in baggy jeans/etc , anyone remember all the concept art for that, so yeah i am done with this topic, if you all want to think thief 2014 and thief vr are cannon then feel free, go listen to a talking eye "ring any bells a talking eye in thief 1, shocked no one mentioned that
people can say what ever narrative they want but in the end, nothing is known after thief 3 cannon but a bunch of people trying hard to make thief 2014 and probably thief vr as part of the cannon when all they needed to say was its official thief by rights holder
none of the thief games turned out how they wanted them, including thief 1/2/3

Same. Was going to post something similar, once you have experienced OLED blacks everything else is ruined for you. I know someone on another forum that returnec their Quest 3 after trying Doom 3 and seeing how gray is the best it could do. I played The Black Parade and Doom 3 on my OLED. First time I saw proper shadows since I got rid of my CRT back in the mid-2000s
